Just seconds after being named this season's Apprentice, Randal Pinkett made his first executive decision -- he instructed Donald Trump not to hire his competitor Rebecca Jarvis.
"I think there should be only one apprentice," he said when Trump asked if Jarvis should also be hired. "I think that's the way it should be."
While it was obvious The Donald had planned on offering jobs to both candidates, Trump did not hesitate in granting Pinkett's wish and making him the sole Apprentice.
For Jarvis this was a huge slap in the face.
Not only did the 23-year-old outshine Pinkett during their final tasks -- hosting different fundraising events -- she has an exceptional resume, including starting a children's charity at only 15-years-old.
"Rebecca, I think you are brilliant and you have a tremendous future. Basically, I am stuck with two stars," said Trump.
In the end, it was Pinkett's extensive education (he's a Rhodes Scholar who attended both Oxford and MIT) and leadership abilities that won The Donald over.
"Randal, you have been outstanding. Rarely have I seen a leader as good as you," said Trump just moments before announcing his choice during the show's live finale at the Lincoln Centre in New York.
Although Pinkett was a shoo-in to win The Apprentice from the start, he failed to impress the boss during his last challenge, running a celebrity softball game and auction.
The 34-year-old, who did not check the weather forecast and was, therefore, caught off guard when it began to rain, did manage to pull off the auction segment of the event inside the baseball arena, but Trump and his executives were disappointed in the final product.
Jarvis, however, planned an exceptional event for Yahoo, right down to the little purple flashing light ice cubes that were served in the drinks. But her team failed to raise any money for their charity, which Trump felt was unacceptable.
As the winner of this season's The Apprentice, Pinkett will oversee massive construction projects at Trump's three hotels and casinos in Atlantic City.
Meanwhile, season five of The Apprentice is set to air next spring.
I would say that she was less qualified than Randall, but more, or evenly qualified with any of the fired choices.
Excluding Randall, she would have been an acceptable choice over the others. Yes, she is young and lacks experince, but that is expected of any young Apprentice. These faults can be fixed with Time and Experience.
I think Randall looked bad and I think Trump allowed Randall to make him look bad. Not a good start in any new job.
I don't know about that, or otherwise, but I did see him on Fox the other day and he stood up for Christmas and that it was silly to speak of it as anything else. Now that doesn't make one a conservative, but it does demonstrate that they can see the stupidity of liberal PC.
Randall really messed up when he said "This isn't the aprenti (not a word in the english vocabulary), but the Aprentice."
Randal doesn't understand that aprentice is also plural...
Did you notice that the show ended 5 minutes early, Trump did not expect Randal to do what he did.
Randal's event was set up as charity event from the beginning. VIP's were invited to play ball with atheletes and bid on items donated by them. They all knew it was a charity. I was surprised they only managed to raise $11,000 with Sugar Ray Leonard there.
Rebecca's event was intended by Yahoo not as a charity function but as an appreciation to advertisers or managers or whoever, so I don't even know why the charity angle was even piggy-backed on. And then the whole thing about Joe Piscopo backing out seemed bogus. Rebecca was really in a no-win situation, and I think that was the point.
I agree with you completely and said so on the old Apprentice thread. Now he has to defend his "bad guy" persona in all the forthcoming interviews. There's no point.
Huh?? It looked like they rushed through the end and didn't do the rewarding to the Apprentice of a new sports car, etc. like the previous three had experienced. It's a two-hour show, you'd think they could manage time better.
All I know is, in the handful of episodes I saw, she was the only one doing a damned thing.
Perhaps they had failed Apprentice Brian in charge of that. He got fired for budgeting 15 minutes for a cab ride from one end of Manahattan to the other. D'oh!
I haven't thought one final has been entirely fair. It was obvious halfway through the past two seasons who was going to win. After hiring two white males, they needed a non-white or a non-male to win the third season so they picked Kendra but Kendra was still white so this year they *had* to pick a minority. Randal was their obvious choice. The rest was all just an exercise.
That's why I thought Trump's infatuation with Rebecca would lead him to offer two jobs. She couldn't be allowed to actually win but Trump wanted her anyway which set the stage for the whole ugly scene last night. He expected Randal to okay it because he has been, from the very beginning, portrayed as a nice guy. Randal crossed him on live national television. Now whether that was pre-planned or not, I can't tell you but it sure came off evaporating all the goodwill that Randal had built with the audience.
"Both Raj and Maria (same season as Raj) were the Masters of Ceremony at the Young Republican convention in Las Vegas in July."
...
I liked the way Raj dressed but thats it. Raj is all about Raj. Honestly, how does he stay focused on the job while checking his image out in mirrors every five minutes? He's too self absorbed.
"If anyone can come up with an example of a true patriotic conservative who was a Rhodes Scholar, I'd be interested to see the name"
...
Wasn't actor singer Chris Kristofferson a Rhodes Scholar? I don't know what political animal he is but he's never given me the impression that he's an arrogant s.o.b., at least not on camera interviews. Maybe he is in private?
I think the question many are now wondering is whether his reaction on live TV was "out of character" or whether that was in fact the only unscripted Randal we've seen. He certainly seemed to be caught off guard, so it would lead one to believe that what we saw was the "true Randal", and the rest of the interview was what he offered for public consumption.
I believe it was cut short because the audience changed demeaner... they applauded loudly when Randy was announced winner, but when Randy snubbed Rebecca, the audience fell quite and not too many cheers after that. INfact rumor has it the crowd actually started to "boo"
Yes, Kris was a Rhodes scholar and also served in the military in the 1960s. He even won a teaching job at West Point, but didn't take it in order to pursue music. I'm not sure of his politics either, but this quote is attributed to him:
""I think between us, Bill Clinton and I have settled any lingering myths about the brilliance of Rhodes scholars."
You mean the former stripper, Alla. There's also rumor that she was more than just a stripper.
I think Trump didn't want someone like that on his team.
I don't know what the womans name was, she was the one that took charge of the gals team during the ferrari episode, and also the Star Wars Episode III display episode... I only caught a few episodes this season, but the ones I did catch, she seemed to be the only one consistently stepping up and getting it done.
