Tulsa coach says he has no interest in Colorado job

Tulsa football coach Steve Kragthorpe does not want to replace Gary Barnett as coach at Colorado.

Kragthorpe's name has been brought up as a possible candidate to become the next coach of the Buffaloes, but he released a statement Saturday shooting down the speculation.

"I'm flattered that my name has been mentioned in conjunction with the head coaching position at the University of Colorado," he said. "However, I am not interested in the position at Colorado.

Barnett was forced out last week after seven years at Colorado.

Kragthorpe, in his third season at Tulsa, led the Golden Hurricane to the Conference USA title this year. The Hurricane (8-4) will play against Fresno State in the Liberty Bowl on Dec. 31.

The C-USA crown was Tulsa's first league championship in 20 seasons.

Colorado is still dealing with some of the off-field problems that occurred during Barnett's stay.

A state audit of the Colorado athletic department is due Monday. Several media reports in Denver on Sunday said the audit will be critical of the athletic department.

Barnett left with a $3 million settlement of his contract. He had largely weathered a scandal in which at least nine women contended they were sexually assaulted by athletes -- no criminal charges were filed -- but his team lost three straight games to end the season.

wow I couldn't imagine Boise's offensive schemes at a school like Colorado, where you can recruit top of the line players....

But who wants to go to a program that is most likely going to be put on probation.

A coach who knows how to utilize talent. Colorado has always been able to attract major talent just have rarely had a coach to take advantage of it.

"rarely had a coach to take advantage of it"

Yeah, a really great guy too. Although that MNC they received is questionable at best.

You're referring to the 5th down at Missouri?

My favorite season was 1989 when they went undefeated in the regular season (including their first win against Nebraska in a dog's lifetime). They didn't win the NC game, but it was all the off-field drama that made it memorable. McCartney also drew the scorn of Pat Schroeder and the Boulder liberals, which made him a hero in my book.

Yeah the 5th down. I remember that season as the year Nebraska lost to both National Champions and Oklahoma. Of course that whole stretch from about 1986-1992 was just about forgettable for an NU fan. Its where we got the stigma of not being able to win the big game.

You've probably seen this. It mentions the great college dynasties including your 95' Cornhuskers.

Some of them dont even belong. I think one important rule isnt being applied. You must be unanimous NC, 1994 PSU and 1997 Michigan shouldnt even be on there. Heck 1994 PSU didnt even win even a share of the NC.
