Tulsa football coach Steve Kragthorpe does not want to replace Gary Barnett as coach at Colorado.
Kragthorpe's name has been brought up as a possible candidate to become the next coach of the Buffaloes, but he released a statement Saturday shooting down the speculation.
"I'm flattered that my name has been mentioned in conjunction with the head coaching position at the University of Colorado," he said. "However, I am not interested in the position at Colorado.
Barnett was forced out last week after seven years at Colorado.
Kragthorpe, in his third season at Tulsa, led the Golden Hurricane to the Conference USA title this year. The Hurricane (8-4) will play against Fresno State in the Liberty Bowl on Dec. 31.
The C-USA crown was Tulsa's first league championship in 20 seasons.
Colorado is still dealing with some of the off-field problems that occurred during Barnett's stay.
A state audit of the Colorado athletic department is due Monday. Several media reports in Denver on Sunday said the audit will be critical of the athletic department.
Barnett left with a $3 million settlement of his contract. He had largely weathered a scandal in which at least nine women contended they were sexually assaulted by athletes -- no criminal charges were filed -- but his team lost three straight games to end the season.
Butch Davis?
This isn't about Barnett. Boulder has started to view the football program as another corporation. Think of all of the rape accusasations there, then think how many have actually gone to trial.
IMO a coach would be crazy to try to take over at Churchill University.
I heard Glen Mason may have interviewd privately. He is know as a program builder. The name thats been tossed out the most though has been Butch Davis.
Barnett left a mess at Northwestern when he left.
He is one of those college coaches that leaves messes everywhere he goes.
while you are probably right to a certain extent, Barnett has a history as well.
I have seen and heard his name listed....but I don't know if he is ready for another rebuilding project.
yeah....
Glen is tired of playing 2nd banana to Michigan and Ohio State in the Big Ten. Since he can't get over the hump against those 2 (although he did beat Michigan this year), he might as well leave.
Also, it depends on the contract negotiations with Minnesota. Supposedly it's rumored that he is looking for a retirement clause with Minny.
I realize Barnett is no angel, but he did have to try and clean up the Neuheisel mess in Boulder. Looking at the condition in which Slick Rick left Washington's program, it appears Barnett did a fairly decent job against a stacked deck.
no doubt that Barnett is a decent to good coach. Look at what he did at Northwestern....
but chances are he didn't try to clean up what Neuheisal did. So there is a mess on top of a mess. But at this point in time, the Neuheisal stuff is ancient news...
nah I don't think Colorado wants to see Slick Rick anytime soon...
yeah probably....
I don't know what would have drawn him to CU.
I mean it was pretty obvious after Neuheisel left that there was a mess there too. UCLA was just having issues getting players to play well.
And the CO-eds aren't even comparable LOL
He might see it as the chance he never got while at Kansas to win a conference without a strong Nebraska there to whip him.
possibly...but it's going to take a couple years because Oklahoma and Texas are going to be fighting for the Big XII for the next couple years....
Yeah. I think the Big 12 is going to be a tough conference next season. At least tougher than this year. Neberaska will basically be having the first full year under a Callahan recruited team so the North shouldnt be such a pitiful division. I think NU's bowl game is going to show how decent they have come along.
I tell you what, if NU is within 4 TDs of Michigan, then they have improved.
Michigan isn't a bad team. They just has a pitifully slow start and ran into a good Ohio State team in the end.
I hope its closer than that.
never know...but NU is going to have a hard time moving the ball against Michigan....
