Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Home is behind, the world ahead
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

It's fun setting fire to just about ~anything~ when you're a kid.

'nite folks. I'm not getting any work done tonight. Might as well go upstairs and read myself to sleep.

OK then.
I have been given peace about it.

Heh...yep. Spent many happy hours in the sun with a magnifying glass when I was little. Why burning tiny holes in leaves was so much *fun* back then, I couldn't really say.
I think I mentioned this before, but we discovered that the little paper boxes for Milk Duds "fun size" packages would burst into flame when you used a magnifying glass on 'em. Dunno why that would be so, but it was really cool to play with.

Just for the record... gunpowder was a lot harder to make than everybody says. We didn't have the Internet or the anarchists' cookbook back then.
Dangit. Just spiked myself. Sorry, uh... NSA guys... just kidding... :-) Honest.

Well done once again, Corin.
I'd better get some shut-eye myself. My blankie and I are off to bed! ;-)
Nighty night Hobbit Hole!

I've read some of Elizabeth Elliot's books, most of which at least talk about her and her husband. A couple of them, notably "Passion & Purity" are big in the homeschooling circle. I liked what she had to say only thought it would be interesting if any of her heartwarming stories of True Love didn't end with "So they became missionaries and got executed by Communists".
Did not know that movie was about Jim Elliot and company.
