The Virgin Mary was not defiled, a statue of her was. No one is safe from South Park. The Catholic church has been a target many times.
I actually fell asleep during this episode. What I did see I did not think it was funny at all and I was a bit offended. However, I am a South Park fan. I take the good with the bad. If you can't take it don't watch it at all. Being a red-head, the "Ginger" episode was hard to take too. Tough.
One of the reasons I like the show is because they skewer everybody. You got to be able to shake it off when it's your turn to be ridiculed.
My husband told me the next morning that the show was basically going after AA and the belief that alcholism was a "disease" permitting the alcholic to have no responsibility for his actions.

We used to watch South Park, but after the inital scene where they announced where the Blessed Mother was bleeding from we turned it off and will never watch it again.
I have watched "South Park" a couple of times. It was amusing and I even agreed with the message but it was too crude for me.
"South Park" now owes us n epsiode trashing Mohammed. Plenty of material to select from there, I might add.
The episode wasnt very funny and Im pretty tolerable about offensive things.
The show just wasnt funny regardless of the anti-catholic sentiment.
We all praised them for the Scientology episode and now all of a sudden, we are suprised when Matt and Trey do this?
Everyone needs to know that any and everything is fair game with these guys and to not expect them to tread lightly on anything held dearly to us.

They insult everyone. Usually it is a very funny show. That episode was weak.

If you don't like it don't watch it. If you don't like your kids watching it, then pay more attention to your kids.

I figured their taking on the Catholic Church (again) and AA would probably give them some extra cover in case the Scientologists decide to sue the Smith family.

The Catholic church does a pretty good job of defiling itself, if you ask me (a Catholic).
On a trip to Italy a friend who lives in Rome explained Catholic relics to me. As I recall, a first order relic would be a piece of the true cross, his robe, the shroud of Turin, etc. A second order relic would be something associated with Mary. A church in Rome supposedly has some of Mary's breast milk in a reliquary.
Third order relics are objects that have been touched or in close proximity to first order relics. They tend to abound in Italy.
I'm surprised I read through the first 100 posts and found no mention of AA. They also did a pretty good number on Alcoholics Anonymous and there doesn't seem to be anyone complaining.
