I downloaded two packs from microsoft last night...what can I say...I was bored.

I think I downloaded some of these: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer for Windows XP Service Pack 2 (KB883939) Update for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (KB831167) Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer for Windows XP Service Pack 2 (KB896727)

I cannot remember, and I dont suppose there is a way to find out what I did.

Can anyone help me out. Email is my life line to the real world.

go to the download site and you can search for a history of all of your downloads.

Since your Internet connection is obviously still working, you can view your email on the server of your ISP, can't you? All Outlook does is download mail from the server to your machine.

What is your outlook doing that it won't work now? What is the specific problem?

Uninstall Outlook and replace it with Thunderbird. Its a free e-mail client companion to Firefox.

If I have a choice, I'll upgrade to the next version of Linux. No need for $$$ on the inevitable hardware upgrades required to run Windows Vista. (Unless Windows Vista really fixes for good all the Windows XP security holes.)

you can view your email on the server of your ISP,

My ISP is Road runner. My outlook connects to Roadrunner through a brown box with lights. Roadrunner is having no problems with their emails and I checked with a neighbor upline from me to be sure.

Does it give you an error message? If so, what does it say? You might have to reconfigure your outlook settings. Why I don't know, but those security updates can do funky things sometimes.

Then you can manage your email online until you get Outlook working again. For example, my ISP is Road Runner of northeast Ohio, and I access my email online at https://webmail.neo.rr.com. Substitute your local URL and you can do the same for the time being.

when you go to the updatge site, there is a menu on the left. Look under'Options' and click on 'review your update history'
Also I would try re-loading your updates, sometimes in the process something gets corrupted...

on your browser toolbar - go to 'tools', then click on 'windows update'. It takes you here:

Two "last ditch" alternitives if you can't get Outlook to work :

1. Go to add/remove programs in the control panel. It should should the different updates you have installed and allow you to uninstall some of them. Alas, service packs are often uninstallable. Try uninstalling what you insalled last night, if possible.

2. Go to System Restore in the Accessories folder. You can restore windows to the day before you installed the latest updates, when, presumedly, outlook was working OK.
