Reevu MSX1 motorcycle helmet with rear-view mirror

Putting a clear pane in the back of a motorcycle helmet, viewable via a front-mounted mirror, might seem like an obvious idea in, er, hindsight, but it took helmet manufacturer Reevu to make it a reality. The company’s MSX1, which has been the worst-kept secret in biker circles for several years, has finally made its official debut, at the EICMA show in Milan. The helmet relies on a distinctive raised crown, which provides a clear line of sight from front to back, enabling the mirror — made of unbreakable reflective polycarbonate — to capture the view from the rear. The helmet is expetcted to be available worldwide at about $399 early next year.

Or you could save $400 and just look in your rearview mirror.

$400 is not at all unreasonable for a quality helmet. If you're going to spend about that much anyway why not get a feature that might save your life too?

For the No-Helmet Crowd.

That's pretty slick. My standard rear views seem to do just fine for me, and I'm not willing to move from a half helmet to a full helmet just for additional rear view. Still.. a neat concept though.

If you have a $10 head, get a $10 helmet.

The 1990 patented design!

Not intended for high-speed use. Or, IOW, Harley approved!! :-)

Hey, does that mean your head is only worth $400?
What about tax?
Insurance?
Warranty?
Is there a rough use disclaimer clause?

PS: What colors do those $10 helmets come in?? Put me down for 40 of them, XL. Thanks. :-)

Wasn't it Bell that used to have the ad, "If you've got a $10 head, then buy a $10 helmet!

Of course, it seems that there's some new technology out there for helmets that are far better at reducing the # of "Gs" transferred to the head in case of an impact, but those are hand built, and I believe that they're only being used in F1 racing. And the price tag is in the neighborhood of $10,000! And no, even at that price, they're not for sale to the public.

and just look in your rearview mirror.

On an awful lot of bikes, even with rear view mirrors, it's difficult, if not impossible to see directly behind you. And on a lot of sport bikes, about the only thing you see in the mirrors is your elbows or shoulders! The only way to see behind you is to shift your body out of the way. Not good for keeping an eye on what's going on behind you.

I was able to find a company that makes mirror extensions for my Ducati, and I went from watching my elbows when glancing at the mirrors, to actually being able to see what's going on behind and to the sides of me.

No, it's not quite the same. Consider that when you turn your head to the left that this rear view mirror will show someone running a red light to your right...something that your center-mounted or static mounted side mirrors won't do.

I paid over $300 for my Arai Helmet, so $400 for this one does not seem that bad.
