Very cool. I am sure it is possible. The 5 kiloton fusion warhead on the SSGM-40 anti-ship missiles are no wider than the diameter of a harpoon missile. Obviouly that is uncontrolled fusion. But contrlled fusion only needs an electric current or magnetic field to contain the plasma.
Yep. Mine do that too. Not too much different than existing turbines except the independant source of oxydizers. The primary fuel is a synthetic compound (still trying to think of what that compound will be) meant for maximum performance but it can easily run on standard hydrocarbons like deisel and kerosene.

The air/space-craft in my novel use a hybrid of ramjets and pulse detonation engines. The detonations are in the thousands per second. With each shockwave reinforced by the one preceding it and channeled out the exhuast port for forwrd thrust. The sound of the engines in an atmoshphere is an odd mix of a roar and that of a really loud huming bird. In an oxygen-containing atmosphere (15% oxygen or more) the oxygen is taken from the air. The intakes open or close depending on speed. In the supersonic to hypersonic realm they are almost closed. This is to compress the existing air. In space or on worlds without oxygen-containing atmosheres the intakes are completely closed and the engines use their own oxydants.
Of curse the big Assault Landing Craft/Assault Landers(tasked for carrying big things like the M35 tank into battle in numbers) use fusion. The atmosphere (or reaction mass) is taken in and then exposed directly to the fusion reactor's plasma and channeled out through thrust tunnels. Obviously everything for hundreds of meters around the ship is exposed to hurricane force winds so these require huge landing zones. The Assault landers are about the size of small warships (corvettes and smaller frigates which are in the 50 to 150 meter realm). Small warships like that are actually capable of landing and taking off although this consumes VAST amounts of reaction mass and need 'refueling' (deuterium fuel is only needed in small quantities) in orbit.
You RELLY get deep into the Sci/fi realm, in your novel. Mine doesn't get that deep, as it is geared more to a general audience, than hard-core Sci/fi fans. But I will give you credit:: it sounds VERY interesing.
Well it is hard not to lol. while it is mainly sci-fi it does have the obvous military thriller mixed in, as well as adventure, a romantic sub-plot (to dd realism and to appeal to female audiances) and even a bit of fantasy (one of the characters has psionc powers).
I also forget to mention it has some cloak-and-dagger stuff in it as well. With nearly very leader killed, there are those who try to make ther own moves for power as well. "The Unholy Pact" is probably the most tragic chapter. In there is a group of survivng leftist-types making secret deals with the enemy, selling out their own nation, including handing over of the Sacred World (Earth) in exchange for power and wealth. This is where a secret paramilitary group is activated and ordered to fire against any Marines still fighting the Commonwealth forces in violation of a sham "peace treaty." This is the start of a second front in the war: a civil war. Of course these traitors are dealt with.
BTW-- in my story, the two main characters, Dr.s Smithson and Royce, have made a vow, to God and each other, of sexual purity, until their wedding night. Just one of the many positive messages in my story.
Mine will be that way too. The battle scenes are very dark and intense. While the space battles are more of an adrenaline rush, the ground combat has a much more personal feel to it.
Mine will have angels/spirits too, belive it or not. Miya's psionic powers stem directly from wthin her, her soul. There will be an actual out-of-body experience and that is where she gets key information to stop the threat.
One of the most tearful scenes is when the Shadow Force gets its order to fire at the Marines. Miya senses it during a particularly nasty battle, senses these guys, implanted into every platoon, just waiting for their order. But no one belives her until it is too late when the platoon leader is shot by this guy. What makes this scene sad is that it becomes personal. Krige happened to be the brother of this agent and until this point they were inseperable. They go from family to fighting eachother to the death. It is followed by scenes of other Marines fighting and dying against their own at the same time they are fighting the enemy. Each chapter has sub-sections. This section is simply called "Betrayal."

Thanks. That guy very likely suffers from Schitzophrenia... the whole "receiving & transmitting messages" with strangers in other cars on the freeway was just one example from his catalogue of Weird. Fortunately, that guy seems to have retained just enough sanity to not attempt to contact me again after the restraining order was issued (and after it expired).
One of the lessons I learned from that experience is that although my first vibe on people is usually very accurate, there are some folks who put a really deceptive cover on a really rotten book... unlike in the movies, where the bad guy is swarthy, with bad teeth & hair and ominous background music... LOL!
Correct... people can change, but only if they are personally A) willing to be admit the problem(s), B) willing to do the work it takes to change themselves. Hoping for someone else to change is a recipe for disaster.
I would add to Rca2000's post the suggestion that big glaring warning signs include control, emotional manipulation and neediness, i.e. women (or men) who present themselves as victims of ___(fill in the blank)__ who Need Your Help. I have a dear friend who is now in a good relationship but he was formerly involved with a woman who was a total Wallet Vampire. She played on my friend's compassion for her problems (he viewed her at the time as a victim; he's now aware that all of her problems were self-generated and self-perpetuated) and his attraction to her. I don't even know HOW much $$ he "loaned" her (he's never spoken of exact #'s), but I am so proud of him that he's learned his lesson and is now enjoying a MUCH healthier partnership.
70's music... Yeah! It's playing at my house 95% of the time, and it's sooooOOOoooo funky! My modern fave (by far) is Jamiroquai. Of course, he has one whiney song about Blair/Bush on the otherwise fabulous new Dynomite! cd, which I skip, but it's so obvious that Jay Kay is a disciple of Roy Ayers, Pleasure, Brothers Johnson, et al. Plus he's an incredible singer, and the musicicians. Are. So. FUNKY!
As for Mickey J., I cannot dispute that his Quincy Jones-produced hit's from the 80's earned him the King of Pop title for that whole century. I still turn it up when I hear the super-high compression coming through the FM in my truck... but the rest of that guy's story = sickens.
