The Hobbit Hole XXV - Fare you well! Fare you well!
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 10/15/2005 7:13:08 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Fare you well! Fare you well!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Hey, can you explain "suspended" to me? Like suspended from school for three days...what's the point? What does it accomplish? Sounds to me like "You're in trouble...take a vacation."

Do kids that get suspended miss those days of schoolwork too and get zeros so that it impacts their grade? Is that the jist of the punishment?

I really have no idea and am confused.

I'm homeschooled, how would I know why suspension is a punishment? Then again I thought being sent to my room wasn't much of a punishment either.

Maybe it's just a "you've been very bad, now think about what you've done" sort of thing.

... I dunno what other reason.

Rosie and I went hiking today! We drove up the Poudre Canyon and then hiked up to the top of a small mountain - 8000 feet. It was going to be a 2 mile hike but the trails were badly marked so we ended up on the 4 mile trail, and then that trail vanished so we had to go back the way we came for a total of probably 5.5 miles. We were out there for two and a half hours. It was great. Not too many people, lots of nice views...

Sounds lovely! Was the weather cool?

It's been nice here all day. I went to a garage sale down the street and bought a long-sleeved shirt...plain, white...simple nice white stretchy kinda shirt...to wear under sweatshirts or with even a nice sweater, you know?

Got half way home and saw it had brown armpit stains. YUCK.

It only cost me 25 cents, so I considered tossing it...then I remembered my opinion that Clorox cures everything and I just bleached the everlovin' out of it along with a formerly white towel that Steve washed with a red shirt.

It came out great! Sparkling white! He he!

(The towel is still slightly pink.)

Nice cool weather, yup. Not cold, in the sun, but almost chilly once we got low enough that the sun was blocked. Beautiful bright-blue sky. Once we were almost to the slope, we could see actual mountain peaks, with snow, behind the foothills around us. The mountain we climbed was really just a very large foothill. Maybe a kneehill.

And we've run out of names!

Now why didn't they just tack on some names! We've still got X, Y, and Z. They could have had Xavier, Yolanda and Zach!

I don't think they had a "Q" name either.

Matthew loves meatballs. I'm going to teach him how to make these...

1 lb ground beef (can also use ground turkey)
1/2-2/3 cup dry breadcrumbs (can also use seasoned crumbs)
1/4 cup milk
1/4-3/4 teaspoon salt (optional)
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1 egg

Combine all ingredients and shape into 20-24 meatballs (1 to 1-1/2 inches each).

Place in microwaveable pan and cover loosely.
Microwave on high for 3 minutes; rearrange meatballs.
Cover again loosely and micro until brown inside, approx 5-7 min more.
Let stand covered for 3 minutes.

Either freeze for later browning, or saute in a skillet to brown.
(I freeze things like this spread out on a cookie sheet briefly, then break them apart individually and put them in a plastic bag.

Heh...get this. I went to two garage sales on my street. One I bought the white shirt at...the other had nothing but trampy trashy practically prostitute-like clothes and I started to leave. The girl standing there conducting the sale literally said to me and I quote exactly... "All day long people have been stopping, looking, then walking off. Why do they even BOTHER?!"

Ok....

Evening Ruthy, Sam: We all hope and pray that Wilma decides to miss Florida completely.

Ruthy, a full plate like that does not need a hurricane for desert. Take care.

Evening OT: Yellow face has been playing with us today, guess it finally made up its mind. Bit of rain now. We went to ~ town ~ today. Gave blood and had a great lunch, topped off with a nap when we came home. Finally decided to turn on the boiler, the animals were giving us this 'brrrr, we're cold' routine, huddled up on their beds. Sigh.

Evening g'nad. Well, everyone needs a bit of sleep each week, try to work some in, okay?

How did the new rounds work out? Not familiar with Reloader 7 powder, only serious reloading I've done with red dot for shotgun loads.

I've been pretty lazy.

Listened to the UNC game and thinking up scenes for TheGreatAmericanNovella. I have the Toaster killing someone so far.

Been gray and sometimes drizzly today. Sun peeked out for a little bit.

While I was looking at the stuff, it was quite obvious that it wasn't the nice modest stuff I like to wear...I figured it was the girl's stuff. She looked oh, maybe 15-16 years old. Then she calls in the house and says "Mom! There's someone out here!" and her mom comes out and looked like she was potentially younger than me but had led a hard life. She was wearing the same type of stuff that was for sale on the table. She says "I've been straightening my hair." and I looked at her in shock...her hair stuck out in every direction!

Ok....

So then I'm trying to cordial, you know...and I say "Do you live here?" and she says "No, this is my boyfriend's house."

Oh...ok...so I said "Well I remember when they put this full length driveway in...my husband and I were so tickled, because it meant someone else other than us had a full length driveway in the neighborhood!"

The lady just blinked at me. So I explained "It was an improvement to the neighborhood...we like to see that!"

You ever talk to someone and it feel like your words are just falling down on the ground like dead fish? That's how I felt.
