Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Fare you well! Fare you well!
New verse:
|
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Hey, it will still be in the "Twelve Days of Christmas" window, you'll just be getting nearer to Epiphany, Three Kings Day, when the Wise Men came bearing gifts to the Baby Jesus! You could do your own "Wise Man" thing and bring something home to the boys from the Gulf Coast!

So you had a flat?
Well, how about that?
Well, babies, don't you panic.
By the light of the night,
It'll all seem all right,
I'll get you a satanic mechanic.

(Janet) In the velvet darkness
Of the blackest night
Burning bright.
There's a guiding star
No matter what or who you are.
(Brad & Janet) There's a light.
(Phantom Voices) Over at the Frankenstein place.
(Brad) There's a light.
(Phantom Voices) Burning in the fireplace
(Janet) There's a light, a light
In the darkness of everybody's life.
(Riff Raff) Darkness must go
Down the river of nights dreaming
Flow morphia slow
Let the sun and light come streaming
Into my life.
Into my life.
(Brad & Janet) There's a light.
(Phantom Voices) Over at the Frankenstein place.
(Brad & Janet) There's a light.
(Phantom Voices) Burning in the fireplace.
There's a light...a light...
(Brad & Janet) In the darkness of everybody's life.

Saw a shooting star tonite...
cut through the mundane thoughts running thru my mind as I focused on the window of my headlights in the darkness...
even tho' there was a gibbous moon reflecting on the clouds, the trail cut a path that left it's ghost in my waking eye...
I was glad I caught that little piece of eternity...
How many shooting stars in how many skies I have seen...
How many miles... how many eons had this speck of universe dust travelled to meet its end, with only my eyes and God's to mark it's very existence... and it's end...
made me feel small...
Saw a shooting star tonite...

Now that's a dreamy moment ...
Poetry really impresses me ... I find it cuts so close to emotions. And yours has an edge of alone-ness that touches this reader. You really should collect these.
I'm to bed. Take care, sir.

When the kids were little, we stretched out the gift giving over the Twelve Days. They got something from St. Nicholas (not Santa) on Christmas Day, then a little something each of the other Twelve Days. There were some of the days on which they got a bigger gift like the Feast of the Holy Innocents (Dec. 28th), New Year's Day, and on the last day, Epiphany. We saved gifts from the Grands for New Year's Day. So that way it wasn't ALL on Christmas Day.
I had memories of my cousins on Christmas Day. Their parents must have spent at least $1,000 on each one of them on Christmas, and when we got together at our Granny's house on that afternoon, and I asked what they'd gotten, they couldn't even remember, because they'd gotten so much. I didn't want that to happen with our kids, so we stretched it out so they'd be able to enjoy each gift on its own. This worked until they were all in school, and the timing got messed up with schedules, etc., and it was more difficult to buy little things because they were getting older.
Now, we do St. Nick (yes, we STILL do it) just after Midnight Mass, and they each open ONE gift and we visit some, then get to bed around 3. When we roll out of bed around the crack of noon on Christmas Day, we open the rest. Since we don't have company for Christmas, and it's only the six of us, I can take my time and listen to music while fixing our Christmas dinner. ;o)
