Welcome!!!

"We're so glad to see so many of you lovely people here tonight...

...We would especially like to welcome all the representatives of Illinois' law enforcement community who have chosen to join us here at the Place Hotel Ballroom at this time. We certainly hope you all enjoy the show and remember people that no matter who you are and what you do to live, thrive and survive, there's still some things that make us all the same...

...You, me, them, everybody..."

"…You know people, when you do find that special somebody, you gotta hold that man, hold that woman, love him, please him, squeeze her, please her, signify your feelings with every gentle caress…because it’s so important to have that special somebody to hold, to kiss, to miss, to squeeze, and please…"

"Have you seen The Wedding Date? You've Got Mail, Sleepless in Seattle? I rest my case."

Ugghhh...

I hate to be so judgemental. I'll admit, once my Mom made me watch the enormously long "Pride and Prejudice", but I actually kind of liked it.

Tell me about it. Harm ate up the furniture in my great room and destroyed the carpet. I put him in the apartment in the basement and he totally destroyed a couch. He even took out the springs. Nothing was left but the wooden frame. He also ripped the nailed and glued carpet down off the stairs!!!

I finally found out that his breed of dog has to run and get lots of exercise. Now he is much calmer, in my opinion but probably not the vet's, and the only thing he eats now is everyone's food!

"I loved On Golden Pond. My dad died of Alzheimer's."

That's too bad. My Great Aunt has it badly. We thought my Grandfather might be getting it at first, but turns out he's just got short-term memory loss and EXTREME obsessive compulsive disorder.

I loved Pride and Prejudice! The one with what's-his-name Firth in it. My girlfriend and I watch it every year!

Luckily, Sammy doesn't have a problem with chewing things (you have to give them lots of toys to chew, and frequently). He's just really hyper, and he loves to play (whether you want to play or not). And like many puppies, he's a playful biter. Ouch! Bad dog!

There's a new version of Pride and Prejudice coming to theatres later this year. Donald Sutherland plays the father, and Keira Knightley (the girl from "Pirates of the Carribbean") plays Lizzie. Hey, I'm the go-to person for movie info.

Yeah, I'm sure this thread will continue tomorrow. We should say goodnight (and mean it!)

So where are you located?

In the blue state of Michigan

Good monrng..Jumping into the movie "discussion", as that is one of my passions. I too, like you, am a movie enthusiast. I probably go to the movies at least 10 times a month. I have big screen production abilities at home w/DVD & good sound etc but to me most movies showcase better on big screens.

Because I am home during day(caregiver to invalid mom) staying home for a movie has much LESS appeal than a comfy stadium seating theater with wonderful sound. Some of them now serve wine/beer

Yes politically some of the performers "suck".. but I do NOT censure my physicians, grocers, attorney etc because of their political view.

Although I am a very active person physically, many of my men friends aren't(esp the elder gents ) and movie/dinner out is the way we get together & catch up etc. Most men, I have found do not like to go to the movie alone & know that I am usually game, even at last minute.

For those that are able to go in afternoons, we have a $4/first showing at our premier stadium seating theater. VERY few people, easy parking. All before 6 are "reduced".. many theaters have monday/Tuesday all day specials with first run movies & free popcorn for $4. We have the "el cheapo" second run theater with $1.00 per movie and on Tuesdays they are 50 cents.

Fri/Sat nights are a zoo and not my first choice for activity - crowded theaters/parking & lines. I guess I am one of those people who feels even at full price, movies are a bargain. What goes into them etc. I love live theater but here in Cleveland area tickets in the "need oxygen" area start about 50.. and good seats are 80 up..

I love the

high action (the Island,Crash, Mr.Mrs Smith, Hotel Rowanda, Sin city ),

adult animation (Howl's Moving Castle or Triplets of Bellvue), Drama (Hotel Rowanda,Cinderella Man, interpreter)

Documentary (March of Penguins, Osama, Born into Brothels);

comedy (Wedding Crashers,Sisterhood traveling pants, Hitchhikers guide ),

"scary" (Dark Water, 6th sense,)

Action Hero (Batman, SkyHigh; Star Wars, Fantastic Four) etc..

I never thought the U.N. was that tough.

The UN wishes it was that tough when in reality they are nothing but a bunch of wimps.
