"No thanks, uncle Sam Representatives from an anti-arms procurement alliance yesterday stage a protest in front of the Legislative Yuan, condemning the US for ``bullying'' Taiwan over the purchase plan." PHOTO: CHU PEI-HSIUNG, TAIPEI TIMES

Juat another day in Taipei There is a Chinese expression about talking to a powerful person and flattering them that roughly translate into "your hold their 'testicles and tickling them.'
The abreviation for the Chinese words are "LP" or to Lo Pa (or something like that). Taiwanese politicians like to accuse each other of doing a 'Lo Pa' or an 'LP' to the USA or Mainland China when they are playing their devious political games. Its a pretty common phrase heard on the floor of the Chinese legislature.
In this photo, a contingent from the group opposed to the US-Taiwan Arms Package is accusing the group in favour of it of doing an LP to the USA.
Pretty funny I thought.

I have to say, though, the guy is holding some pretty big balls with American flags on them.

Lam Pa you mean. Yeah Taiwanese politics makes Texas Politics look like child's play.

These people I assume are KMT supporters who couldn't wait for the U.S. to approve of the same weapons package when they were in power.

"Lam Pa you mean."That is it, yes, thank you for the exact wording. Taiwanese is much more silly, IMO. And in Texas politics, I have never seen a man hit a woman on the legislature floor. In Taiwan, its very common.

No problem.
I know. In Taiwan the politicians often fight it out physically lol. I wish there was a video of it.

The literal translation, if my memory serves me right is "fondling testicles." Ever since their foreign minister accused Singapore's minister of Lam Pa-ing China, it has become a very popular phrase in Taiwan.
