The NHL's new advertising campaign is getting attention, but not the kind it was likely hoping for.
According to a report from The Canadian Press, Martha Burk, the chair of the National Council of Women's Organizations, said she intends to write letters of protest to the NHL and NBC over the NHL's new ad campaign, which is set to begin next week.
The first spot, titled "It's Time," shows a player (an actor, not an NHL player) in a locker room, surrounded by candles and accompanied by a woman who ceremoniously helps him don his hockey garb. The ads feature quotes from Sun Tzu's "The Art of War" along with dramatic camera work and music reminiscent of the film "Braveheart."
Burk told The Canadian Press that the ad is "offensive on many levels."

Meanwhile, on the Gulf Coast, they are dealing with real life and death issues.
Is that the Martha Burk who got 80 NY Times articles, and exactly 8 actual protesters, for her Master's protest?
Ditto. They are bunch of rich, spoiled brats. They will not a penny from me, nor will their advertisers.
The TO commercial has no similarity to this. The NHL commercial is basically a take off on a fairly generic scene from many high fantasy movies where a woman (usually a princess or lover interest or both) prepares a warrior for battle. All very stylisting, a little over the top and silly, and nobody drops a towel.
it's always the ugly one's who complain....
As a resident of the Gulf Coast who was spared major damage when Katrina veered east but was without power for two days; who will not be hit by Rita but is listening to tropical storm force winds from Rita whipping across my roof; and who is facing the prospect of the suburban to rural community that I moved here to enjoy becoming much more urban as we absorb people who move out of New Orleans; I greatly appreciate a little light relief and the prospect of someday having hockey on TV again. My lights just surged, so I don't know how long I'll be able to Freep.

Now what would have been funny is if they used the Hanson Brothers from Slapshot in the clip.
The liberals at ESPN will eat this up since the NHL turned down their cheap offer to air games this season.
Hello out there, we're on the air
It's Hockey night tonight
The tension grows, the whistle blows
And the puck goes down the ice
The goalie jumps and the players bump
The fans all go insane
The home crowd roars, Bobby scores
At the good old Hockey game
Oh! The good old Hockey game
Is the best game you can name
And the best game you can name
Is the good old Hockey game!
Second period
Where players dash with skates a flash
The home team trails behind
But they grab the puck and go bursting up
And they're down across the line
They storm the crease like bumble bees
They travel like a burning plane
We see them slide the puck inside
It's a one-one hockey game
Oh! The good old Hockey game
Is the best game you can name
And the best game you can name
Is the good old Hockey game!
Third period, last game of the playoffs too!
Oh take me where the hockey players
Face-off down the rink
And the Stanley Cup is all filled up
For the champs who win the drink
Now the final flick of a hockey stick
And on one gigantic screen
Well the puck is in - the home team wins
That good old hockey game
Oh! The good old Hockey game
Is the best game you can name
And the best game you can name
tell the dyke to take a hike
The players didn't go on strike, they were locked out.
While in Canada, Martha should protest the disciminatory practice of the Toronto Women's Golf Club.
I'm not sure if you referring to the owners or the players (or both), but the players didn't go on strike, the owners locked them out.
If she pushes this as hard as she did her boycott of The Masters, I expect the NHL will have record attendence this year.
Please...I hope the NHL doesn't go the way of the NFL and NBA. While I can't stand this woman, I don't want Desperate Housewifes sleeping with NHL stars as they listen Gangsta rappers and Brittney Spears on the radio. I just want my sports...free from any politics and anything having to do with the liberal entertainment industry.
Is the ad online somewhere?
You would think she could find something better to do with her time -- like maybe heading to New Orleans. They sure could use some new dykes down there right now.
No Thanks
