Troll Burnt, Tortured, Fined and Zotted.

Millions of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined and imprisoned; yet we have not advanced one inch towards uniformity.

-Thomas Jefferson, Notes on Virginia, 1782

Millions of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined and imprisoned; yet we have not advanced one inch towards uniformity.

-Thomas Jefferson, Notes on Virginia, 1782

History, I believe, furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government. This marks the lowest grade of ignorance of which their civil as well as religious leaders will always avail themselves for their own purposes.

-Thomas Jefferson to Alexander von Humboldt, Dec. 6, 1813.

Christianity neither is, nor ever was a part of the common law.

-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Dr. Thomas Cooper, February 10, 1814

In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own.

-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Horatio G. Spafford, March 17, 1814

"During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What have been its fruits? More or less in all places, pride and indolence in the Clergy, ignorance and servility in the laity; in both, superstition, bigotry and persecution."

- James Madison

". . . Some books against Deism fell into my hands. . . It happened that they wrought an effect on my quite contrary to what was intended by them; for the arguments of the Deists, which were quoted to be refuted, appeared to me much stronger than the refutations; in short, I soon became a through Deist."

- Benjamin Franklin

"If we look back into history for the character of the present sects in Christianity, we shall find few that have not in their turns been persecutors, and complainers of persecution. The primitive Christians thought persecution extremely wrong in the Pagans, but practiced it on one another. The first Protestants of the Church of England blamed persecution in the Romish church, but practiced it upon the Puritans. These found it wrong in the Bishops, but fell into the same practice themselves both here [England] and in New England."

- Benjamin Franklin

"Of all the systems of religion that ever were invented, there is no more derogatory to the Almighty, more unedifiying to man, more repugnant to reason, and more contradictory to itself than this thing called Christianity

- Tom Paine

If Christ were here there is one thing he would not be -- a Christian. -- Mark Twain, Notebooks

God is real.. religion mostly is NOT.. even christian religion.. maybe even especially christian religion.. What would a real god have need of a religon, any religion?

No offense, but to ask this question you must be ignorant of the basics of Christian theology. Christianity exists not because God gets his jollies when we gather in a particular building to sing hymns. It exists because it is the vehicle to cure a great plague (sin) and the results for the patient, which is Hell.

One might as well ask why a doctor treats a patient who has Ebola. He gets nothing out of it except a chance to catch it and die horribly.

Dear Troll:
You swine. You vulgar little maggot. You worthless bag of filth. As they say in Texas, I'll bet you couldn't pour p!ss out of a boot with instructions on the heel. You are a canker. A sore that won't go away. I would rather kiss a lawyer than be seen with you. [snip]...You are hypocritical, greedy,.... poisonous, flagrant, self-destructive, abusive, socially-retarded, puerile, and generally Not Good.

Are you sure you covered all the bases? ;-)
