Kittens need a home!
My Apartment | Some jerk

Posted on 09/08/2005 12:57:35 PM PDT by LongElegantLegs

Sorry for the vanity; Some jerk left two little kittens outside my apartment door; They look to be about five weeks old, with their eyes open, very thin. I don't want them, but the shelters here take animals by appointment only. Any freepers in the San Antonio area need a kitty? They're pretty cute, one's white and gold and the other's a mottled brown/black. Both males, they don't seem to have any fleas, or ticks. Also, any hints on what to feed them in the meantime would be appreciated. (We don't know much about cats.) I'd really like to get them out of here before my husband gets too attached to them and insists they stay. :-)

If you have a digital camera, pictures are a good idea.

The mottled brown and black male sounds like a tortoise shell and are considered rare.

My cat was four weeks old when our neighbor said a friend couldn't keep her in his apartment. She had fleas, wouldn't eat, and looked ready to die. Another neighbor told me to moisten some cat food, open the cat's mouth, and force feed her. After this was done she started eating on her own. She is a gorgeous and silly nearly adult cat now.
Other boards have suggested some sort of formula, but this is what worked for us.

Sure... I'll ping. Pictures would be good, if you want folk to be seduced by their cute faces!

There's actually a Kitty pinger.... slings and arrows I think.

Ping!

I like kitties but my dogs like kitty snacks. Sorry.

Uh, this is the Doggie Ping list. Cats and Dogs are mortal enemies. Cats and Mice are mortal enemies. As a result, Mice and Dogs are sort of friends.

I learned all this by watching Tom and Jerry, btw.

It is true that you can make a dog and a cat live together and be friends. It is also true that Heather can have two mommies. It doesn't mean it is not a perversion of nature.

If their eyes are open, they shouldn't have too much of a problem with feeding them regular cat food.

If they don't want to eat, try feeding them a meat flavored baby food. Most cats LOVE lamb flavor baby food. (dunno why) Chicken works too.

Some of the canned food is made for kittens.

Yup, the dog-hates-cat thing is a myth. It doesn't make sense anyway - cats are also carnivores, and carnivores don't like to eat each other. Dogs are fascinated by other animals, that's all. Sometimes too rambunctious about it, but rarely would you see a dog who really "hates" cats!

Off the box. I hope the kitties can find homes. "Gold and white" - is that buff & white? And male? Generally those are always my best cats! Too bad I'm not in TX.

Same here. My dogs will kill any small animals that get in our yard, except for the cat that was raised with them, Xena Warrior Princess B****...she used to tear them up when they were little so they are afraid of her, LOL!

Was this the vanity that led to your eventual ownership of the kitty ping list?

Call some local Vetrinarians.
Most of them seem to have signs up offereing free kittens all the time.

The very one. Talk about unintended consequences!

There's always the WalMart option.

A poster board that says "Free Kitties". Saturday in the WalMart parking lot and it'll take less than an hour.

I found a cute short haired dog with no tag. I kept it in my backyard for several days and would have adopted it if my Huskies had taken to it. This dog knew "fetch", "come" "sit" and for the most part was more intelligent than my huskies. When I took him to my WalMart, one of the first people to ask was a woman with a stroller. She asked whether the dog was well mannered, and as if on cue he stood on his hind legs perched on the stroller and began to lick the baby!! the woman said "that's a fine dog and my 7 year old will take to him". 22 minutes!!!
