Very true, most tortoise shells are females. I have a blue-cream tortie female, she is just gorgeous, she sort of looks lavender in the right light. The shelter named her Violet and we kept the name because it suits her so well.

Um if the male really is a tortishell KEEP IT! Male calico's and tortishells are VERY VERY rare and are worth a lot.

That explains why my new kittens don't have brothers. Their entire litter of four was female.
