DUBLIN - A bicyclist was arrested near a major intersection after he fought with two men in a pickup truck during a bizarre road rage incident Wednesday morning.
The bicyclist, 41-year-old David Moore of San Ramon, was allegedly cut off by a flatbed pickup truck about 9:30 a.m., said Dublin police Sgt. Steve Brown. Upset, Moore exchanged words with a passenger in the pickup.
That apparently wasn't enough. Moore met up with men a short time later at the intersection of Dublin Boulevard and Dougherty Road, where Moore allegedly opened the truck's passenger-side door and began beating up on the passenger, eventually pulling him out of the truck.
The driver got out to defend his passenger and a fight ensued. Brown said Moore then went to his bike, where he retreived a steak knife and chased after the two pickup occupants.
A Dublin police cruiser and a Contra Costa County Sheriff's patrol car already near the scene and apprehended Moore. Witnesses told the officers Moore was the aggressor, Brown said. Moore was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and taken to Santa Rita Jail.
Friggin' Granolas.
Ban on steak knives
Betcha it was some homeless dude.
My friend's brother did something similar! He was riding out in the country and a teenage kid flung a soda bottle at him as they drove by. The kids made the mistake of stopping at a convenience store about 3 miles down the road and not leaving before my friend's brother caught up with them. He pulled the bottle thrower out of the car and beat the crap out of him.
That stuff makes me wanna get an axe.
Nearly 20 years ago, when I was prone to fits of rage, someone in a car shot me in the face with a water pistol. I chased the car down to the red light where it was stopped and pulled the driver halfway out of the car through the open window. The two other passengers in the car didn't dare move as I threatened to pull the driver's ears off like peeling a banana.
Fortunately I got saved a few years later....
Eh, nevermind. The ages (41 in story, 36 at link) are wrong.
I noticed that too, but figured if I posted something reasonable you'd give me a hard time. :)
Most drivers I encounter and nice and give us proper room. Many come so close you can feel the right side door rear view mirror scrape your elbow as it passes. I have had things thrown at me, cups, cans, water, soda, other stuff. People think it is funny to come up behind a cyclist and hit the horn long and hard. Right, really funny. They scream, yell, cuss, slobber like fools. I have had little old ladies come along honking yelling that I have absolutely no right to ride on the side of the road. Wonder why those bike lane signs are up there on the telephone post?
Basically, like auto drivers, there are inconsiderate cyclists, which in-turn give us all a bad name. I always try to ride on the right side of the solid white line, conditions permitting. Sometimes there is little or no pavement on the right side of the line. Thus, under WA state law, we have a right to ride in the auto lane as both are treated as vehicles, and we must obey all traffic laws as autos do. But, a lot of people out there are simply clueless when it comes to people on bikes.
Each day as I start my little 30-40 mile ride, I say my cyclist prayer to the Good Lord. "God, please watch over me as I ride and provide me the protection of an Abrams tank. Amen."
