Teenager dies after crashing new motorcycle
A Cooper City teenager died Saturday when his motorcycle crashed in Davie.
Stephen Brown, 19, was riding his brand new Honda motorcycle west on Stirling Road near University Drive about 12:45 p.m. when he lost control of it.
Brown tried to straighten out the bike, but he overcompensated and was thrown into the eastbound lanes. He died at the scene, said Davie police Lt. Bill Bamford.
Witnesses told police Brown was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic before the accident, Bamford said. A helmet was found at the scene, but police said they did not believe Brown was wearing it when the crash occurred.
After the motorcycle skidded into the eastbound lanes, drivers of two nearby cars tried to avoid hitting it and got into an accident themselves.
No one was hurt in that crash.
Thank God no one else was injured.
just culling the herd...hopefully an organ donor card was found at the scene next to the helmet...sad, but not unusual story.
Buying a donorcycle for your teenage son is not an act of Love.
Prayers for the family,
Kudos to the two cage drivers for paying attention to driving
and smacking into each other rather than running over a downed
bike or biker.
Physics is no respecter of youth.
I've seen these guys on the freeway and held my breath watching them weave in and out at high speed. Never a cop around to save these guys from themselves, either.
Don't worry...they'll weed them selves thin soon enough.
Darwin Award Nominee wannabe, not spectacular enough, good
thing he didnt take any innocent bystanders with him!
Another example of too much testosterone and not enough riding ability ~ some of us survive and some of us don't.
The most dangerous period of motorcycle ownership is the first 6 months and the first 2,000 miles.
Balderdash. Like my father before me, I'll be buying my children, both male and female motorcycles as soon as they're old enough to get a license. That'll just strengthen the family tradition.
I'll get flamed for this, but part of it is the bike. Riders of squid bikes are overrepresented in accident data for a reason.
Lust for life.
Stupid is as stupid does.
I wish I knew what kind of bike; the article doesn't say. I have my suspicions based on the noted riding behavour.
This one's got to be tough on his family.
There is danger in everything that we do it life.
What is a squid bike ~ I've owned all kinds of bikes over a 57 year period and have yet to run across one of those.
"Oops!"
I love riding bikes but it's just too dangerous even for cautious drivers. Four wheelers for some reason just don't see motorcycles or at least that's been my experience.
Some 40 years ago I was involved as a passenger in a motorcycle wreck. One of the things we used to like to do was get up early, cook a big breakfast and then ride down to the beach to watch the sun come up and spend the day playing around. On this particular morning we were out of orange juice so I volunteered to be the passenger where I could hold the juice.
Yes, we were out early and when the police started following us we weren't overly concerned since we weren't speeding or breaking any other laws. About the time the cops decided we were harmless, it was time for us to turn left into the driveway of the home where we had all congregated. We turned, the cops started their pass and they ended up t-boning us. Being the lightweight I was, I hit the hood of the cop car, bounced off and landed in a nearby vacant lot.
At age 53 I still have problems from the injuries I sustained when I was 16. The helmet ended up breaking my neck and thank goodness, it didn't paralyze me. Had to have surgery 10 years ago to realign my vertebra and I'll always have chronic pain as well as limited range of motion.
I also broke my pelvic bone and split my tailbone in half. My tailbone is now giving me trouble and the doctor's are looking into seeing what can be done about that.
Mike, this isn't necessarily directed at you. If I could get away with it, I'd probably still take an occasional ride because it's fun and there's nothing quite like it.
It's also very dangerous because it doesn't take much to lay a bike down and 4 wheelers just don't see you for some reason.
Ok, end of my sermon for today! I only want parents to reconsider buying a bike for their kids. It can have long range ramifications.
