Freeper Scooter Patrol?
08/31/05 | GRRRRR

Posted on 08/31/2005 6:34:40 PM PDT by GRRRRR

The wife says I am NOT allowed to get a 'scooter' just to use to get back and forth to work...

I've never been interested in the 'big & real" motorcycles, but...what's WRONG with getting a decent looking scooter?

They range in prices from $2,000 to $6,000 with 80 to 244cc engines and some interesting safety features like ABS brakes.

So, what's the FReeper take on gettin' on a scooter? Gay, Too Italian or sensible for urban conveyance??

Who's got one like these? Are you worried about cars & safety? What kind of mileage DO they get?

There's some good Pho shops here in ATlanta, they don't serve beer but the Cafe Fine is great on ice. I know this
Vietnamese lady who came to Atl. thirty years ago she opened
a lunch counter and sold Cha gio for 50c a piece, now she
has her own resturant, and she's put her three kids through
college.

my best to you.

Absolutely nuthin'!

At my local biker hangout there are always scores of top-of-the-line Beemers, Ducks, Hogs, etc.

But it seems like the guy secure enough to come putting up on a Honda Silver Wing scoot grabs the most attention.

Man, I have to admit, that just looks cool. Looks more like something Caterpillar would build than Honda. I like it.

The only problem with scooters is their name. If the bike companies would ditch the sissified "scooter" name and rebrand these things as urban motorcycles, economy bikes, or something like that, they could probably kill the stigma and increase their sales quite a bit.

I totally agree. It's like when they tried to sell "Diet Beer" in the early 70s. It failed of course. When they rebranded it as "Lite Beer" then it sold better than the real stuff. Same when the renamed "Chinese Gooseberries" to "Kiwi Fruit." This is what people think of now when you say "Scooter":

And the target market (16-30 year-olds) does not want to be associated with old people's motorized wheelchairs. In Greece, Spain, and Italy it is a rite of passage for every teenager when they first get their first Vespa. It's cool.

Motorcycles don't compare in fuel efficiency though. I get about 44mpg on my motorcycle. A guy on a scooter will easily double that, maybe even ease into the triple digits.

You know what security is?

Going to the local thrusday night crotchrocket gathering on my ElectraGlide, flippin' off half the crowd, then poppin' & holding a wheelie on the way out!

Oh wait.... That's what "Stupid" is!

ROFL,,, but I've done it anyway..:-)

LOL

I was out riding with a bunch of GoldWingers one night.

Guy on a crotch rocket pulls up at a light next to one of my guys who was on a brand-spankin' new Gold Wing 1800 with his old lady.

Crotch rocketeer starts revving his engine.

Gold Winger SMOKES him out of the chute.

I have a friend that has a Buell and loves it, even more than his panhead (Big Harley). I would get a small propper motorcycle, scooters are just too underpowered, and you MUST take a rider safety course no matter what, the skills I gained saved my life early one Arizona morning

I ride and have lost my left leg in a motorcycle vs drunk driver wreck, but I won't give it up TOO MUCH FUN. If you are going to get hurt you will get hurt no matter what. For example I stepped on a mine in Kwuait city in 1991, turned out to be a dud....just wasn't my time!

I would love to get a bungh of freepers who ride together for a conservative biker bash. We could ride by and tease the anti war protestors (LOTS "O" FUN)

Road Rule #483. Don't mess with 6cyl motorcycles!! :-)

(Unless you keep breaking drive belts on your V-twin and have to go to a chain. At that point anything is open game)

I figured you've broke a few poppin' those wheelies.
