~The Dragon Flies' Lair~Thread~XXII
August 28, 2005 | bentfeather/The Poets of the Lair

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

It's my pleasure . . . I love the last two lines

Whether the Muse or Love call thee his mate,
Both them I serve, and of their train am I.

To me, they really seem to speak about meaning of this site.

Child

A child’s eyes,
are as big as their wonder,
deep as their trust,
clear as a perfect soul.

Angels were the model,
for children from His hand,
a gift to cherish with pride,
making your love so whole.

Treasure them more then gold,
more then diamonds and as rare,
remembering they are yours,
only for a short time for you.

They will grow beyond you and leave,
finding their way as best they can,
maybe with your values or others,
so decide by what you, their Shepherd, do.

Samuel Coleridge - Taylor

Work Without Hope

All Nature seems at work. Slugs leave their lair—
The bees are stirring—birds are on the wing—
And Winter slumbering in the open air,
Wears on his smiling face a dream of Spring!
And I the while, the sole unbusy thing,
Nor honey make, nor pair, nor build, nor sing.
Yet well I ken the banks where amaranths blow,
Have traced the fount whence streams of nectar flow.
Bloom, O ye amaranths! bloom for whom ye may,
For me ye bloom not! Glide, rich streams, away!
With lips unbrightened, wreathless brow, I stroll:
And would you learn the spells that drowse my soul?
Work without Hope draws nectar in a sieve,
And Hope without an object cannot live.

Samuel Coleridge - Taylor (1772 - 1834)

Good night Miss Feather and Fellow Lairites . . . see you tomorrow.

A dragonfly came today

he landed on a clothes pin

looked me directly

to let me know we see

things eye to eye

after our brief encounter

his four wings did fly

to land in the tree above

keeping me in his sights

this odd phenomenon I know

on this October day

when I roam hundreds of miles

from home and with a dragonfly play.

Lady Feather,
I am always glad to discover you find something worthy in my efforts, most satisfying when it comes from my Muse.

Sunday Lesson

Sunrise softly lights the lamp of day,
and whisper like, the sweet morning air,
brings the first breath of life.

Take the time to hear what He does say,
and hold that truth with special care,
to find your path from pain and strife.

Trust the words of ancient cast,
and seek the way beyond today,
if you would know the truth inside.

Wisdom brought forth from ancient past,
as true today as it was back then I say,
accept, He sees, and you cannot hide.

Sunday treasure in the Lair
wisdoms words sprinkled here and there

laid down in the early hours
to shine bright by light of day

a Sunday lesson taught by Johnn
whose muse touches us all.

Hold on there Lady 'feather, I don't know anyone I've ever influenced! (well, there was that one time, but those charges were dropped, I swear it!)

I’m Angry

I hear the talking heads agree to disagree,
and make America less with every word.
I rage at the ease with which they lie you see,
protected by rights they think for us absurd.

Black is white and that isn’t right,
for truth should not be a commodity.
But until we the people put it in that light,
there’s not a chance in hell it will ever be.

You who let those others think for you,
you aid them with your bleeding heart apathy.
If you think your free think again, oh do,
because your more a slave then you want to be.

Letting others lead your life this way,
shows your weakness as a citizen my friend.
America wasn’t built by the like of you I say,
but those who love her enough in the end.

Those who serve her, defend her with pride,
those strong in God and self-responsibility.
Those who build her up and never hide,
are the Americans you have the chance to be.

Change not the Constitution or our Rights,
they are the backbone of our way of life.
Greatness comes to those who remain in the light,
and strive to overcome apathy and strife.

Our enemies rage both without and within,
seeking our very end in their vented fear.
Wanting only to have their choice of blameless sin,
and let the other guy pay the price so dear.

And now I ask you citizens one and all,
to stand for something worthy in the end.
To be true to America, and prevent her fall,
to those who think only to tax and spend.
