If I could be a Dragon Fly and wing my way through the sky
 I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
 through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
 my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

    Group Haikus are FUN!!!!!!!

we have to do this more often!

Haiku
Japanese syllable-based three line poem
with syllable counts: 5 / 7 / 5
(or 3 / 5 / 3 for a more 'oriental' feel to the poem)
A reference to nature is expected. This a form that is wonderful for metaphorical descriptions.

Another one that is fun is the Tanka

Tanka
Japanese syllable-based five line poem with syllable counts: 5 / 7 / 5 / 7 / 7. One can write the 5/7/5 portion and another the 7/7 portion, as long as the first and second portions themes match. You could write the 5/7/5, and the 7/7, followed by a 5/7/5 and then another 7/7... I think its called a Renga

To: WayzataJOHNN
Well, get writing man. Just for now can we stick to Haiku, I'm just getting the feel for it!!! LOL
Must not confuse me you know.

Good night to all who enter the Lair.
May you find peace, love and joy from your visit.
To the poets who post their poetry and music,
Thank You, for treating this room with respect.

    Mardi Mess

Littered looted land and sadly scattered lives
comes of misjudging natures heavy hammer
as an ancient levee suddenly sunders away.

Now theres so many with something to say
after being left in a hurricanes slammer
and now only survival instinct strives

Drowning past lifestyles now a fad these days
as the bureaucratic mess they made blooms
and the welfare state backfires on it self.

FEMA promises it has something on the shelf
amid the tattered leavings of this doom
another lesson the left forces us to pay.

To: WayzataJOHNN
    Mardi Mess II

The finger pointing has just begun
the blame game got started before
the first setting of the sun

 humans sent to the dome
no food, no water, no cots,
 no comforts of home

The sick, the aged, the helpless
the poor, used as they have not been
 used before

 A mouthy woman senator disgraces
 the Senate, threatens to punch
out our President for his criticism

The do nothing governor, a clueless mayor
wait for the Feds to bail out the mess
hurling insults and to this day no official
 request for relief

 Thankless, shameless, leaders on cue
while 200 buses left for our view
 the blame game bandies about
the outlaw gangs roam freely at will.

 It's New Orleans we hear,
the Big Easy, let the Good Times Roll,
now an open cesspool, over flowing with vice,
and America we'll pay for the mess
 no need to think twice.

To the credit of our Military,
 humans lifted away
 from the hellholes of existence
to a clean cot, water and food, medical help
 for the infirm
the aged treated with compassion, loving and care.

No whining, or moaning from them to we hear
 they roll up their sleeves
 saving lives, searching in homes
 for the many still there.

The Military, our heroes no praise
will they take, it's our job they say
get to the job, and do with excellence
any task, while the Governor of New Orleans
 still refuses to ask.
