Diana and Dodi Statue Unveiled
Hello! Magazine ^ | 8/24/05 | Unattributed

Posted on 08/24/2005 2:54:58 PM PDT by Huntress

On the eve of the eighth anniversary of Princess Diana's death, she has been honoured with a new sculpture dedicated to both her and her companion Dodi Fayed, who also died in the 1997 Paris car crash.

The bronze statue, entitled Innocent Victims, was commissioned by Dodi's father, Harrods owner Mohammed Al Fayed. Created by family friend Bill Mitchell, it is due to occupy a special place inside the legendary London store.

The work depicts Diana and Dodi smiling into each other's eyes as they apparently run along a beach together, with a bird poised for flight at the tip of their joined hands. Dodi's shirt is unbuttoned and the Princess is clad in a skimpy, clinging dress.

OMG! the libs always like to ask:"when will you get over clinton"
I'll get over Clinton when they get over Princess Diana.
I swear to god that if I had 3 wishes they would be:
1)Fabulous wealth
2)A Flat-Tax
3)That Princes Diana had never died, so that I could stop hearing about the b*tch.

Her face looks middle eastern - doesn't even look like her.

It's a cultural thing.

This is one of the most unsettling and spooky sculptures I've ever seen. It gives me the willies to look at it.

It belongs in Madame Tussaud's wax museum down the street.....in the section with all the macabre historical figures in it.

Though I'm no fan of Dodi or Diane, the statuary dishonors both.....just as much as Axis Cindy dishonors her son with bizarre manifestations of twisted grief.

Can somebody Photoshop a burkha on top of whatever it is she is wearing? Because had she realized her true love, that's what she would have been wearing. Maybe an expensive one, however, appropriate to a Sloane Ranger.

Hey, I sort of liked those crossed swords.

I have mixed emotions about her. On one hand, I think she is a tragic figure. She did not know what she was getting into when she married Prince Charles, and couldn't handle her loveless marriage being in the spotlight. On the other hand, much of her behavior subsequent to her marriage was totally asinine. Diana and the British monarchy would have been much better off if she had married some obscure aristocrat, and Charles had married Camilla in the 1970s. The royal offspring would not have been as photogenic, but that's the only downside I see in this scenario.

For some odd reason when I first saw this piece of work, that old song from the 70's popped into my head. "Everyone was Kung Fu fighting...."

As if their whole silly "relationship" wasn't tacky enough, now Dodi's father wants to display this cheesy statue.

It looks like a scene from Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds," with Diana in the Suzanne Pleshette role.

They should add some flames around the edges . . . Dodi and Di dancing their way into hell.

This is so incredibly declasse that the mind boggles. Even if it is indoors at Harrods, I doubt that the neighbors in Knightsbridge are particularly pleased.

One wonders how the "People's Princess" brother, the keeper of the flame, etc, etc, is reacting to this one. Heh.

This is so low rent, that I doubt that a repro will even show up in Madame Tussaud's.

No wonder Charles dumped her.
