Patton, Glory, The Patriot, Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers. Glory was probably my favorite because not only was it a true story but it was so well made in all aspects. Acting, music, script, and direction. Band of Brothers was very close, maybe a tie with Glory.

"Sit down, John! For God's sake, John, sit down!"
I love 1776, too. Man, I totally lose it when Johnny is dying and singing to his Mama. *SNIF*
"Pins, John...Salt Peter, Abigail..."
That is by far one of my favorite movies and/or stage productions. You have excellent taste! :)

I sat down with a bunch of GI's at WSMR recently, and we argued over every detail in "we were soldiers."
I lost, BTW - I thought that they had done it badly. So the consensus was, I would go watch it again, and report back.
They did it exactly right, and I had to eat crow - nothing new, there.

Won't say it's the most patriotic movie overall, but one of the most patriotic SCENES, in my opinion, was in Apollo 13, when Ed Harris's character overhears two NASA bigwigs talking about how Apollo 13 will be the the biggest disaster NASA's ever faced. Harris reprimanded them, and said that he believed it would be NASA's finest hour. The character's (certainly, not the actor's) don't quit attitude was a high point in American movie patriotism to me.
Ed Harris also played one of the most sympathetic and patriotic villians of all time. Marine General Francis X. Hummel in the action packed "The Rock."

My girlfriend's dad (soon to be my father in law) flew supplies in and wounded out of that valley even after he had been wounded himself. He passed out from loss of blood while being resupplied at the controls of his Huey. No one except he knew he had even been hit. The movie "We Were Soldiers" did great credit to men like him who laid it all on the line for their fellow troops those days.

"The Patriot" is a real flag-waver. I have a DVD of it, and when I watch the scene of the men standing one by one in the church to volunteer to fight the English I want to go back on active duty.
Another one is "Henry V," the Kenneth Branagh version. Even though it's British and not American the "Band of Brothers" speech by Henry before the battle of Agincourt is hard to top for getting your patriotic juices flowing.

She is a little younger than me, but not much. She is a vet herself. Army Signal Officer. Served in Desert Storm. Her sister went to West Point but was put out on a medical. She showed up with an undiagnosed heart condition. Great familiy I am getting into.

Here's an obscure one from 1943: "Air Force." I saw it on TV when I was a kid. It's a World War II propaganda flick about the adventures of a B-17 called "Mary Ann" and her crew in the early days of the war. By modern standards it's really hokey, but I've always liked it. There's a lot of flag-waving in it.
I always wanted my own copy, and when VCR's came out I searched high and low for a videotape of "Air Force." Finally got one back in the late 1990's. Now I'm looking for it on DVD.
