What are the most patriotic, flag waving movies?
and "The devils Brigade" - Die Teufelsbrigade.
Funny that my favorite movie is in German, what?
Alamo (with Billy Bob Thornton)
Alamo (with John Wayne)
I liked the modern version the best. They show the sacrifice of a few hundred men that reaped great rewards. Without out those poor brave souls, we might all be speaking Spanish right now.
You beat me to it. "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" is in second place.
That was Gene Kranz that Harris portrayed to a darned-near T. Kranz wasn't just a fine American; he was a damned fine American. One of the best.
Saving Private Ryan.
Anything John Wayne.
The A&E movie The Crossing.. I think that is the name of the one about Washington crossing the Delaware.
1776. A great movie and one I watch every Fourth of July
Spencer Tracy in 30 Seconds over Tokyo.
Man.... now I am going to have to go to the movie pages and find some more...Wait...
The Patriot with Mel Gibson. That was it.
Good thread.
Yes! Glory!
Until the movie, I had never even known the story!
It was riveting!
Remembered Gene, but I couldn't put Kranz with it for some reason.
OK... it was OK
The Green Berets and 1776.
"Absolutely, THE PATRIOT. I saw it in Westwood with a group of about 20 FReepers. What a great time."
On July 1st and AnnaZ's baby was born three days latter on the Fourth of July.
You can't get much morre patriotic than that!
I just rented "Team America" this weekend. I was kind of shocked at the puppet pornography in the movie. Not to mention the foul language. Definitely not a movie for children.
"The Patriot."
Wow. The first time I watched it was from behind my hands. I'm such a wimp when it comes to blood and guts. But I just loved that movie so much, that when it was done, I said to DH, "Honey, pop that one in again, because I'm going to watch it again all the way through."
Man, it was moving. I love Mel. If anyone has it figured out, and if anyone appreciates history and the founding of nations, it is he.
Can you even imagine any of us having to go through the things our Forefathers endured to make us what we WERE? (I'd like to say what we ARE, but today pales in comparison to our early years as a country.)
"We Were Soldiers" another great patriotic Mel Gibson movie.
...and our very own AlohaRonnie was there.
Rah! Rah! USA movies, TV series and books.
Independence Day (Bill Paxton)
Air Force One (Harrison Ford)
Gettysburg (Jeff Daniels)
Alamo (Dennis Quaid)
Die Hard (Bruce Willis) (or Rah Rah Roy Rogers!)
Guns of Navarone
The Right Stuff (Sam Shepard, Ed Harris, Dennis Quaid, Scott Glenn)
We Were Soldiers (Mel Gibson)
D/C 9/11 Time of Crisis (Timothy Bottoms)
Dennis Miller-The Raw Feed, 2003
National Treasure (Nicolas Cage)
TV series:
Stargate SG-1 (seasons 1-5) (Richard Dean Anderson)
24 (Keifer Sutherland)
Books:
1776 by David McCullough (new and great!)
Just watched it tonight on Flix!
"Red Dawn" is one of my favorites. Wolverines!
"The Crossing" with Jeff Daniels, relates some of the events of General George Washington's famous Crossing of the Delaware River and the Battle of Trenton, NJ in December 1776.
I agree. That was sooooo good! I'm so glad we had such awesome menfolk kickin' @ss for us back then.
I shudder to even think of what life could be like now had we not had those brave, brave men in our past!
This would be a good tome to mention......DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE ("Team America" that is) WITH LITTLE CHILDREN!!!!
I think the movie could have done without the smut.
