Survivor - Guatemala: The Official Thread
Various Websites and my fertile brain | August 11, 2005 | Cuz_it_aint_their_money

Hidden deep in the rainforests of Central America, stand the ruins of an ancient civilization that once prospered, and then vanished. These were the Maya people, and this is the country of Guatemala.

These stunning cities of the past stand as clues to a mystery thousands of years old. While Europe was in the dark ages, it was the Maya who harnessed the knowledge of the stars, and the celestial movements, to create a mystical union of man, nature and the gods. It was a world of great kings, elaborate ceremonies, fierce battles, and even human sacrifice.

18 Survivors will be marooned within this mysterious and rugged terrain.

For the first time, the castaways will actually live within the ruins of a vanished civilization, and they will be forced to embrace the ancient Maya lifestyle.

Join us as the adventure continues with:

It was great, Cuz.

I've watched it twice already.

Did you enjoy it?

If Jim had snapped a ligament or tendon, wouldn't he be needing surgery? Seems to me like his injury was an automatic ticket out of there?

Hello all on the Survivor thread.

This is the first season I’ve ever watched Survivor. I’m just watching it because I know Judd Sargeant, the NYC doorman. Now that I watched an episode, I realize “Joe Schmo” (which I LOVED) was even funnier than I thought! They didn’t even exaggerate things like the voting ceremony! Funny stuff!

Anyway, I’m rooting for Judd. I don’t know him well, but I know some of his best friends well, and all the people I still know from my hometown are watching and rooting for him. He’s about 8 or so years younger than me. I also knew his wife when she was a kid. She and her mother lived in the apartment above my best friend.

I last saw Judd and his wife and daughter at a pool party last summer. They still live in the same hometown where we all grew up. He’s a very funny guy, likes his beer, really outgoing and loud, which hasn’t really shown yet. They’re very nice people, so it would be nice to see a million bucks going their way.

Here’s some more facts about him that haven’t been revealed so far:

He has an identical twin brother and a couple of sisters. He had another brother who died from drugs. I don’t know that whole story.

He’s kind of dopey in a book sense, but he’s crafty. I think he’ll be very adept at overplaying his dopeyness, while getting people to do exactly what he wants them to do. He’s pretty shrewd.

He’s also a real ballbreaker in a funny way. He’ll likely start zeroing in on some of those annoying guys. The red headed guy. The Ivy League guy. The dopey farmer guy. It should be fun to watch him goofing on them.

Liking the show so far!

The red headed guy.

I hope Judd takes out that red headed guy!

Think the red head is a democrat?

Or just generally obnoxious? ;-)

Thanks for running these thread, cuz.

Here's my picks for the show. I had already picked Jim to be the first boot, but mainly because of your predictions, and knowing that the 11 mile hike was going to be grueling. Gruelling isn't for 60+ year old guys.

Without further ado:

To make the merge (assuming that we merge still merge at 10):

For the Yaxha tribe:
Stephanie, Gary, Brianna, Rafe, Morgan
(Brian, Amy, Lydia, and Jamie booted pre-merge)

For the Nakum tribe:
Judd, Danni, Cindy, Margaret, Brandon
(Jim, Blake, Bobby John, and Brooke booted pre-merge)

Final Four:
Stephanie, Gary, Brianna, Rafe

Winner:
Stephanie

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Stephanie has gravitated (or vice versa) towards Gary. Not sure if this because he was out in Front on the 11 mile hike or what but I am betting this is an early indication of a power alliance.

I think you're exactly right.

I'm picking Stephanie to win. She's been here, seems to be sharp, and strong, and I think she's already working on an alliance to get herself to the final four. I think she's picking Gary as a strong guy to help her get there, and think she'll pick a couple of the other younger ones to ally with.

Thanks for the insight..BTW..anyone who works as a doorman in NYC is far from dopey..needs to have a great deal of street smarts, and an instant ability to read and assess people..have to determine in a flash if the stranger walking into your lobby is an expected guest or an escaped serial killer..he shoudl do well, if he skates below the radar for a few weeks..

No way Steph wins..she may last a few weeks, but soon the others remaining will ALL realize that none of them would stand a chance against her in the final two..

Hey Cuz - shouldn't last night's show have had a BARF ALERT

LOL. I know dehydration is an awful thing, but weren't they drinking the water they had? What happened to those candy-bottomed boys?

He reminds me of a certain sitcom character I've seen on a few shows. Certainly looks like a fun guy.

Ashes to ashes
Dust to dust
You're dead to us

Great show. I guess there won't be a third.

Forgot to Tivo.

Thats the whole point of TiVo. Set it up the first time and it will follow the show whenever, wherever it goes. I set up my TiVo for Survivor seasons ago, and havent had to change it since. Get with the program!! Use you TiVo to its fullest potential!!

It's the "Outdoor Living Network". Started out as a hunting and fishing channel. But they discovered that there aren't enough people around to watch hunting and fishing shows.

They're biggest draw to date has probably been the televising the Tour de France, and this summer they brought the previous Survivor shows out in syndication.

There's showing 4 episodes a week of previous survivors, so, about once a month we get the next Survivor. They're up through the 4th episode of Survivor Africa (season 3) and will start season 4 in October, I believe.

LOL! We JUST got ours. We switched over from Dish. It is a lot different to figure out than the DVR. I'm sure we'll get it straightened out by next week, I hope. :)

With Judd that makes three of these survivors that have twin syblings ... And from cuz's notes, twins are big in Mayan culture. Hmmm.

We may be that smart, but I'm not convinced that those who get to play the game are all that sharp with strategy.

I'm only up to Survivor Africa, but I've seen a lot of very questionable strategies that were dead from the get-go.
