These stunning cities of the past stand as clues to a mystery thousands of years old. While Europe was in the dark ages, it was the Maya who harnessed the knowledge of the stars, and the celestial movements, to create a mystical union of man, nature and the gods. It was a world of great kings, elaborate ceremonies, fierce battles, and even human sacrifice.
18 Survivors will be marooned within this mysterious and rugged terrain.
For the first time, the castaways will actually live within the ruins of a vanished civilization, and they will be forced to embrace the ancient Maya lifestyle.

Thank God! I'm starting to have withdrawal symptoms.
Wow, it's that time again. Can't wait. Meanwhile over at the Big Brother house................
The last "Survivor" was the best one so far, IMHO. I hope this next one is as good.
Given the Mayan culture's penchant for human sacrifice and cannibalism, this might make for some interesting reward challenges.
Let the games begin!
You heard the rumor that Stephenie and Bobby Jon will be amongst the Survivors in Guatemala?
Woo Hoo! I've been jonesing for my Survivor.
next Survivor should be in Patagonia or the Arctic. Cold misery will bring out a whole new side of people. Of course, the T/A will be minimized, which is probably why they won't use a cold weather location, but think how tough that could be. You have to harpoon your own whale or kill your own seal?
Guy on the bottom left....who knew?..it's Jason Giambi?
Now, all I need to know is when the 2nd half of the South Park season starts.
and the old guy next to him looks like Jimmy Carter..
Can you spot the former quarterback?
How come they don't ever have these survivor shows in a truly cold climate? Now that would be a real tough situation to survive. But I guess life just isn't worth surviving if you can't survive by running around half-naked in some tropical rain forest. I might have a little more regard for this thing if they for once could have the program set in Antartica, Greenland or Siberia.

Interestingly, while today's CBS announcement reveals the identities of sixteen castaways, the network's previous announcement had stated that Survivor: Guatemala would feature eighteen castaways. Today's carefully phrased announcement also made no mention that the sixteen castaways revealed today comprise Survivor: Guatemala's entire cast. Although contacted by Reality TV World, CBS representatives have not responded to requests for clarification on the discrepancy between the two announcements.
Taken together, the network's actions would appear to add significant fuel to earlier rumors that Bobby Jon Drinkard and Stephenie LaGrossa -- the hardworking final two members of Survivor: Palau's incompetent Ulong tribe -- participated in Survivor: Guatemala's production. While the unconfirmed reports had placed the Bobby Jon and Stephenie onsite in Guatemala, it had remained unclear whether the twosome had actually been allowed to compete as returning contestants.
According to CBS, Survivor: Guatemala's castaways will begin their adventure with an eleven mile hike through the jungle. At the end of their hike, they will arrive at an ancient Mayan ruins and ceremonial site (reported to be located within Guatemala's Yaxhá national park) where they will "be faced with two additional surprises" that will "dramatically impact how they play the game" -- statements that would seem to fit well with the idea of Bobby Jon and Stephenie joining the $1 million competition.
Is everyone aware that OLN is replaying the first season? 7pm and 10pm weeknights and Saturday and Sunday, but I'm not sure of the times.
