I think it's not the idea that they are breeding that is gross. What makes it gross is that their breeding creates a freaky mist over the entire country. What is Gods name could possible cause that??? I really don't even think I want to know.

I got the impression that the mist was just because the Dementors are out, not at Azkaban, and multiplying. Probably roaming around the countryside leeching emotions. If they eat good memories and feelings, I'll bet the mist is the visual manifestation of the lousy feelings and depression they leave behind.

In other words, the mist is Dementor poop.

I'm glad that, so far, it is just one long thread rather than five or six separate ones. It's been easy to follow all of the different theories. I like that more FReepers are joining in as they finish the book, too--keeps the fresh ideas coming!

I don't know if you've read the little companion book "Magical Creatures and Where to Find Them" but I was disappointed that there was no mention made of dementors. Nearly every other creature is listed, even those who only get a paragraph or two throughout the books. I didn't know that they could breed until this book. I thought they were some kind of a subversion of an existing creature, like Tolkien used. There is very little to go on.

Yeah, I have - it's actually "Fantastic Beasts" - I think Dementors aren't quite a beast, they're more an evil force. But apparently one that can breed.

I just got my "Truly, Madly, Deeply" and "Dear Frankie" DVDs, and am looking forward to watching them this weekend. I'll report back to you movie buffs!

By the way, (and I apologize for going off-topic), am I the only one who thinks Johnny Depp in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" looks like a dead ringer for Mary Tyler Moore?

LMAO!! You know what is disturbing about that hair do?? I wore it for a lot of years and I loved it. Now my hair is to about the middle of my back, but I dreamed the other night that I went to Super Cuts (I'd rather let my 8 year old niece cut my hair then go there!) and they gave me that same hair cut again!

You saw "Chralie" didn't you? How did you like it? I love Depp's acting enough to ignore his real life persona. It's a real shame that acting talent and brains so seldom fit in the same body.

I hope you enjoy the movie. If you don't, I'll buy it off ya! I'd love a copy.

Took me the better part of a day and a half. But I had
reason to plow through the book. We had a small (?)
tornado hit our area Wednesday that dropped two huge tree
branches on our roof. It knocked out our a/c compressor
plus the back yard was a mess and the swimming pool filled
with leaves, twigs, small branches. Estimate our home-
owners will be hit for about $5000 once all the estimates
are in adn work completed. A contractor had to take the
tree down to the ground, cut up the huge roof branches,
and discovered their weight and fall had cracked the
house ridge! So, with no electricity in the house, I had little to do but work outside raking up debris OR sit and read the Half-Blood Prince! Guess what I chose to do!

Now...on to the discussion.

I've never seen "Dear Frankie," but I have seen TMD and it is wonderful. If you like it even half as much as I do, that'll be alot.

I finished the book yesterday, but started rereading
it today. I will read slower this time and not rush
through as I am on the lookout for clues as to WHO
IS "R.A.B.!"

I really didn't understand chapter two with that
long dialogue between Snape, Narcissa (Lucius' wife)
her sister until the second time around! Now, it makes
sense. But with all those references throughout the
novel to the magic polyjuice, I really expected someone
other than Snape to be assuming his "shape" in those
last chapters.

I have to admit, I had more than a few tears well up
during those final chapters. I just was not prepared
for that ending!

Then there is the question of the withered/blackened hand.
Thought for a while there I was rereading a Nathaniel Hawthorne novel...he always used the HAND in his stories
as a symbol of some terrible secret being withheld by a character.

More later.

I haven't seen "Charlie" yet, because hubby is really balking, (he's very loyal to the Gene Wilder version)although I agree that Depp is very talented. He is one of those actors who can create characters that you remember forever. "Chocolate" and "Finding Neverland" were my favorites.

Now, back on topic (finally!), has anyone suggested that the locket that D and HP retrieved might STILL be a horacrux, just camoflaged by a fake note to make people THINK it wasn't a horacrux any longer?

I hadn't given the locket any thought, really. Whoever RAB turns out to be, most likely R. Black (forgotten his first name!) went through a lot of trouble to get the locket--everything HP and DD went through together. That in itself makes me wonder: How did this RAB do it all alone? Didn't HP give some thought to how it couldn't have been accomplished solo? If that is indeed the case, RAB had an accomplice. Hmmmm....I do think the locket is a fake, though. For some reason, I think the fact that it was opened is significant, but who knows?
