THIS THREAD IS INTENDED FOR READERS THAT HAVE COMPLETED THE BOOK! If you have not yet read the book, consider yourself warned: There will be spoilers on this thread.
For my fellow FReepers who have no intention of reading the book but would like to discuss the more controversial issues related to the work, I am asking you as politely as I can: DO NOT HIJACK THIS THREAD. We are all members of this forum and as such, it is not up to me to disallow anyone from participating in the discussion. That is why I am asking you--please do not hijack this thread. If you would like to discuss the more controversial aspects of the book, maybe you could start your own thread and ping us over there. If we are interested, we'll come.
Nite, TOL! Hope those wascally teens let you get some sleep.
When is "GoF" supposed to be released? I have not been impressed with the movies so far.
Retro --
You think you seemed silly? I was crying in OOTP when Harry tried to contact Sirius through the little mirror after he was already dead. I kept picturing that last hug of his when he was in dog form. Silly me!
Sometime at the end of November. They didn't give an exact date today. It just said, "NOVEMBER" on the screen, but I seem to remember hearing November 23.
I finished at 2:30 am. Too sleepy to get weepy over D then but woke up rather shocked. I can't talk to anyone else about it because my son, in-laws and such are still reading. I liked this much more than #5. That one seemed to have 200 pages of padding. This one got right to it. Harry is so grown up now and the themes are so adult. You guys are sharp re RAB - I missed Regulus Black.
LOL! That is too funny. I always say that the good thing about FR is that you can make book on the fact that if you are crying about something, someone else in Freeperworld is crying with you. ;-)
So I am hoping that Harry isn't as whiny as in the last book? That is what annoyed me the most.
She turned 17 in September; she is almost a year older than Harry.
Could you add me to your HP ping list as well? Thanks.
How long until we find out if you're right????
Too long.:(
No, he's not whiny. He makes a real effort to control his temper.
I missed it, too. It was a "Duh!" moment once it was pointed out to me. I also thought this book was more adult.
I would love to be added to your Potter Ping list, please!!!:)
Done!
You're added!
Really? She's a year older?
(Must reread...)
No, he's not whiny this time. He's matured leaps and bounds over the last book.
My son was just turning 11 when I found out of the first book. We got the next two early from the UK and hooked everyone else in the extended family. It's been fun watching him grow up with Harry.
BTW--I got the book from Barnes and Noble, the midnight party. On the way out, I was skimming through the names of the chapters. One of the salespeople said something about "DON'T READ THE NAME OF THE LAST CHAPTER! NO FAIR KNOWING THAT DUMBLEDORE DIES." I was with my son, so violence was out of the question.
I was an assistant manager at Waldenbooks for a few years and we used to read books pre-release. We NEVER would have said anything so stupid as that saleswoman. We'd have been fired the next day. I wonder if B&N has the same policy.
I can relate, as I have a son whose birthday is Sept. 16, and he was always the oldest one in his class, and several of his classmates had summer birthdays and were nearly a year younger than my son.:)
