Harry's birthday is July 31. Hermione's is in September. They both started Hogwarts at age 11, but Hermione turned 12 soon after the beginning of classes.
I can relate, as I have a son whose birthday is Sept. 16, and he was always the oldest one in his class, and several of his classmates had summer birthdays and were nearly a year younger than my son.:)
