New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |

Still round the corner there may wait |

Home is behind, the world ahead, |

No clue what you're talkin' about, man, but don't feel bad, I never get these refs.
Dobie Gillis!! I used to watch that show.
Well, FWIW, this morning I'm regretting ever letting it escalate to that point.
But, I've had my say. I'll perform my duties like a good soldier. And then I'll sit back and watch him fall flat on his face. The treasurer already told me if he doesn't lose the attitude, she's walking.
Later. I'm off to Fangorn.
HAPPY FRIDAY!!!
Grrr! And invariably the "other guy" isn't around.
DISCLAIMER: This is not to gripe about sysadmins in general - and no offense is indended to the numerous and wonderful sysadmin-types who frequent the hobbit hole. I fully understand it is a difficult and thankless job: customers either hate you or don't even acknowledge you exist.
*snort*
It might have been more 'biting' if the iBook holder was carrying a chair instead of a club.

Oh my!
Well, there's another story brewing and branching off from my support group situation. It involves my church. You know my church has a hugh support group *too* and about half of them went with the new group. The rest of us either didn't join a support group or stayed with BA CHEF.
Well, last year Celeste was a leader in the church group. She's not this year, thankfully. But I just got an email and it's from the leader (a very sweet person.) She says "Last year at the end of the year, the group leaders decided to take a "team" approach to running our support group."
This is exactly how the new support group is set up. They started setting it up that way a couple years ago when it was still my support group.
I can't stand the word team now.
I'm not a team player, I guess.
See, it was the leader, the steering committee (Celeste) and the "team leaders" that decided to split of from CHEF. We have to pay $5 to belong to the church group. What happens if the leader of our church group decides to leave First Baptist and take the money with her? (I would like to say that could never happen but after what happened a few weeks ago, I can't.)
I am FOR SURE going to nail down in the next meeting whether or not the finances are under the authority of FBC BA.
Whoops! Didn't get the 'grammar challenged' one dumped in time.
Morning!
~sip~
We have one that literally hides. Literally! He will actually go and hide in a closet. We found him in one once he said he was organizing it. He had been missing for *hours* and we needed him to bring up a server. *grumble*mumble*mutter*
Man...sys admin types are often not really people persons (however you'd say it), but that's taking it just a *bit* to the extreme.
Sigh... I'm actually in the same enviroment. I do Windows, some of the guys do *nix. They're as clueless about Win as I am with *nix, and we do say, go ask someone else. I've picked up enough *nix to use it, but that's it, I'm at power user level.
And I just have so much on my plate, learning a new OS thoroughly isn't really worth it. But I feel bad.
At least my job description really is "Windows Systems Admin". And some of the others were specifically hired for their *nix skills. Plenty of our duties overlap but when I think the *nix servers need a reboot I go for help...
Anyway, my own preference in a multi-OS environment is that every sysadmin have at least some familiarty with all of the operating systems; at least enough familiarty to answer simple questions and fix simple problems, which let's admit, the vast majority of user problems are (simple fixes, I mean). More difficult or possibly dangerous things, like fiddling with servers, can be left to the experts... but simple stuff, or at least a first look to determine whether the problem needs more expert help, should be workable by whomever is available.
IMHO, of course.
