The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Have you ever noticed that this:

~sip~

Has a different meaning in the morning than in the evening?

Good morning. I have four auctions that I've bid on...curriculum, you know...but they don't even begin to close till tomorrow. I have a break. The last few days have been hectic, with bidding and then either winning or loosing, if I loose I have to rebid on another of the same item that I've been "watching" just in case I loose the one I bid on!

Vey hectic. I decided I would devote this one week to getting what I need via Ebay and order the rest...I've got almost everything I need except for these four items and I did already get all of the most expensive items for a third of the cost.

I thought about you yesterday, cause it was truly a beauty day. We took a trip south and west of Tokyo into the mountains. The only thing that was not perfect was the clouds that were hiding the top of Mt. Fuji, so we didn't see it. Bummer, that. But we had fun on the trip back down the mountain on a 'ropeway' or sky tram because we'd yell konichiwa at all the cars that passed us on their way up the mountain. Then, when they laughed and waved back, we'd take their pictures! It was SOME fun!

If you have the ISBNs for the books, be sure to check half.com. as well. I've gotten some REALLY good deals on books from them.

*yawn*

Good morning!

I'm only kinda with it today. FINALLY went out to the local bluegrass jam last night and ended up doing the "I'll just stay for *one* more song" thing until after eleven and didn't get to sleep until close to midnight. Still woke up at six thirty.

It was pretty fun, the jam...though of course I didn't know the local favorites and therefore had people thinkin' I'm a total beginner. To an extent I *am* where bluegrass is concerned, and it was nice to have folks helping me with chords, but it's frustrating to know you are fairly good at *some* tunes and styles and not be able to show it...and having people keep saying things like "don't worry - we all had to start somewhere!" is sometimes hard to take. Probably good for me, too.

In any case, I have *lots* of homework. Need to learn a bunch of new tunes and the chords to go with 'em and do more practicing along with CDs.

That's a good idea!

I just lost a bid...4 days before it closes! I'm having trouble getting the Bob Jones Math 6 Teacher's Edition and Reading 6 "As Full As The World"...I can find the old green Reading text, but it isn't compatible with HomeSat.

Gonna have to go lookin' again. See ya later.

If onegiri is something that's easy to make, would you send me the recipe? I keep threatening my anime club with onegiri - they're a staple food in anime and in at least one popular show, serve as a metaphor.

Glad you're having fun! Take pictures!

Exactly. Fully find JPL. Give the rest of NASA's budget to the X-prize people.

Morning....

I have to run up to the beach house today... Dad's ~new~ truck is in the shop. Been in the shop since last week. Some kind of defect warranty item with the transmission.... it thudded when it shouldn't have. He's waiting for it, he's mad about it, and he has stuff he needs a truck for. I'm gonna take him the old truck for the day and let him run some errands.

Half the budget to Rutan, the rest to sponsor more X-prize type contests, like first private spacecraft to spend x time in orbit or something.

Even if no one ever claims it, it'll do as much good there as at NASA.

There has already been talk of NASA sponsoring similar contests. What they need to do is make a serious shift to doing that. Also any missions that want to do, like going back to the moon, should be done in a similar privatized format. Those sort of things made Aviation into what it is today. The dawn of aviation consisted of large numbers of small companies and individual hobbyists working on small projects in parallel. The results speak for them selves. Get regulation out of their hair and stoke the flames of ingenuity.
