One thing that may be useful could be this: Include a fund-raising info piece with each knife. When the soldier gets his knife, encourage him/her to not only pass word around that we have this program but *also* to have them encourage friends/relatives to donate to our program.
Another thing to keep in mind, beyond mere funding, is that Mister Mag is, while very impressive, still (presumably) a human being with a job and a life. There is a limit to how many knives he can reasonably be expected to process by himself. I'm not sure what to do about that or what might make sense.
Oh, yeah. I loved the new Charlie. But for Luke - not yet, I think. I'd call it an "eight and up" movie.
Absolut Terrorism.
Outstanding. Simply outstanding.
Man, that Absolut one is great!
I'm in an artsy fartsy kind of mood (okay, so maybe just the artsy is new tonight). But if we could come up with something along the lines of the Victory Garden...
That's what I was thinking. Thanks.
ecurbh and I were talking about that... how do we say "In addition to showing this knife to other troops who may want one... Please also forward our link to your family and friends who may donate to our cause!
However, when he is older, it's much better and closer to the book than the old version.
This Friday is pay day, so I'll be sending a bit to ya, Rick!
We really should put up a thread or something. Even if raises a few hundred dollars, that's something!
I think that's pretty good wording. We could just do something on a business card type. Surely somewhere on the net we can find someone to donate the printing.
Hmmmm...I just thought of someone...shall I ask him?
Why do people keep saying that? The book was a child's book, and I don't remember it being dark and creepy... I recall it being very much like the mood of the original movie.
I'm just not looking forward to (again) all the years of "why can't I see this movie."
We had Jr. to the point where he accepted the fact that he had to be 13 to see a PG-13 movie.
Luke's not gonna be that easy.
Yes, but a child's book for an 8-year old is vey different than a child's book for a 5-year old.
Oh, man, it was dark and creepy. Roald Dahl is all about dark and creepy, that's his gift. Maybe you weren't a dark and creepy kid? But my sibs and I were.... and we loved it.
I mean, the sequel involved alien monsters that had eaten everyone in the space hotel, that's got to be dark and creepy.
"Because I said so, and it's my house. Grow up, get a job, do what you like."
I read it. many times as a kid.
You know I'm a healthcare professional. I use proper terminology when dealing with the parts of the body with my boys.
Here's a conversation that will likely never take place in your household, eh??
I walk in the living room and find Matthew adjusting himself. I
say
"Matthew! Quit adjusting yourself!"
"I can't help it!" he replied..."Joshua jumped on me and smashed one
of my...um...what do you call them?"
"Testicles?" I asked...
"Yeah, he smashed one of my testicles!" he said...
I replied "Well, I guess that had to hurt." and he said "Yes it did!
Why else would I be holding myself?"
So I start to walk off and Matthew bellows at Joshua clear cross the
house "COME BACK HERE AND LET ME AVENGE MY TESTICLE!
That's what the wife is telling Jr. now.
He's gettin' a come to Jesus meetin'.
And there's no more free will involved.
I'm sure you did! It's an excellent book. But I just think it's a nice, dark, humorous kid's story.
I mean, come on, the original version of Cinderella had her sisters chopping off toes and heels to fit into the slippers. Kids' stories have traditionally been a bit dark and creepy.
