Ouch... they need to let you all go home until it's fixed.
I can deal with 80 but I *do* have a lot of things to do at home...
Think I'll read the whole series over again! :o)
Our A/C is better than hanging in there. Thank G-d! It had better be hanging in there after we spent almost a grand on it this weekend.
Yay! We are no longer melting!
Eeek! Some things are worth it, though.
This was definitely worth it. It was 97 degrees upstairs and 90 downstairs. I toko the kiddos and spent Saturday night through Monday at my mother's. The A/C guy came Sunday to diagnose, and Monday to fix it. We had to be here Monday (ugh) while it was being fixed. The whole process wasn't finished until 8:30 pm. We went back to my mother's for oen more night.
PE had tried to troubleshoot all day Saturday, and finally gave up and called Frymire's Sunday morning. He went out of town Monday and got home to a nicely cooled 75 degree house last night.
Turns out we had a hugh power surge and the compressor was completely burned up. It was probably a lightning strike, but we cannot prove it beyond a doubt. We would have claimed it on insurance, but it doesn't make the deductible. Oh well, looks like hot dogs for dinner for awhile.
*alas* The dairy thermometer is creeping back up towards cheese. Fortunately I have a bored mtg in another building. I'm sure I'll freeze. teehehee
Just applied for in-store PC tech jobs at both Best Buy and Circuit City. I'd completely forgotten they had such critters as in-store technicians...bein' from the boonies and all. But the gals at the ice cream party mentioned that might be worth a shot.
Gosh, though...those were THE most painful job applications I've done, with the exception of that background check form. They had many pages worth of personality questionaires...stuff where you had to check "Strongly Agree / Agree / Disagree / Strongly Disagree" for stuff like "I enjoy listening to people talking about themselves" or "I dislike obeying orders". It was ghastly.
Ouch, sounds dreadful. But maybe you'll have luck there, since the ones I've seen seem to be glorified stock boys, they must want people with real experience.
Here's hoping. It could be a fun place to work...lots of stuff going on, and being able to work with a team and laugh about the stoopider customers. Good for stories. ;-)
Plus they likely give nice discounts. Mmm...discounts. And maybe free shirts and such, for what that's worth. Hey, at least it'd mean not needing to dress up.
We'll see what comes of it. It wouldn't be sales, which I wouldn't wanna do. Prolly get a cool little backroom area with lots of nifty workbenches and such.
Well, you never know! Plus it'd be a good place to make contacts, don't you think?
Probably. Or at least a good place to work until I know the area better.
If I did, I could drop my resume off at interesting places and just ask them to call me next time there's an opening. I kinda did that at home, and got interviews out of the deal, so it does work.
Great idea, Rosie. I hope it works out for you, sounds like it might be just the thing!
I would like the "laughing at stoopider customers" part the best, heheh...
Sigh.
One set of information, here at the department, says my residency status is granted. The other, at student services, says it hasn't been decided yet. I love it when people can make up their minds.
Heh...it's the best part of working in IT, particularly in a good sized team. ;-)
Simple ignorance of computers is one thing - I can respect that. There are plenty of things I don't know about or don't understand. But plain stupidity is completely different.
I managed to eat a hugh helping of Big Chicken for lunch with the giblet gravy. I was starving, so that helped. LOL Seems like whenever I cook a big dinner, I'm so tired by the time I sit down to eat that I don't have an appetite. That's what happened to me last night.
It really was delicious, better than Little Chicken...which leads me to believe there is something to be said about the aging business. Little Chicken, for some reason or other, was a bit chewy and dry.
Big Chicken had very little fat, as I've mentioned, but the whole time it was roasting, I basted it with butter! I also kept it loosely covered with foil.
It turned out very tasty and moist.
Now I'm enjoying a large bowl of yogurt...we have plenty! Over half a gallon now!
Mmmm...Big Chicken...
I'm having cherries and yogurt for lunch. Odd for a lunch, I suppose...but I had fried onions as part of breakfast, so I guess I'm just not exactly conventional.
The only time I've ever had to fill out one of those ghastly personality and honesty tests was for a retail job. I thought it'd be easy to get a Christmas temp job at a store.... It wasn't easy at all! Their biggest concern with new hires I think, is whether you'll shoplift from them.
