OK Freepers. What are some of your pet peeves? Political, or otherwise??
Cristy Lane
People who say "one in the same." It's one AND the same!!
People who write "should of" or "could of." It really makes me grit my teeth when someone writes "I should of went."
People who brag about how brilliant, beautiful and special their children are. They think all conversations should consist of them talking about their kids, while everyone else listens raptly.
Women who are obsessed with weight and dieting. They think they are experts about diet and exercise and they tell everyone else what to do. They obsess over every morsel they put into their mouths. They're always on some new diet, then going off it. These women NEVER lose weight; if anything, they just get fatter and fatter.
People who use an apostrophe and an "s" to show plural. ("I bought some banana's on sale at the grocery store.") I know teachers who do this. ENGLISH teachers!
The placement of ATM machines in grocery stores. Placing the ATM machine to the cashier's left means that the cashier will start scanning my groceries, and I cannot get to the ATM machine until the slowpoke customer in front of me finally finishes counting and putting away her change, pocketing her receipt, etc. By the time I get to the ATM, my groceries are all scanned. Now the cashier and everyone in line behind me must wait while I scan my ATM card, put in my PIN, etc. It seems awfully inefficient. If the ATM machine were to be placed to the cashier's right instead, I could be swiping my card and putting in my PIN while my groceries were being scanned.
The lines at McDonald's restaurants. For some reason, they have a separate line for each cashier. If you get stuck with a slow cashier or a slowpoke customer in front of you, you could still be standing in line while customers in other lines are getting waited on, obtaining their food, and sitting down. Why doesn't McDonald's have one long continuous line, like banks and post offices have?
"Press 1 for English." Aaargggh!
The blond from Clean Sweep?
Like when they pronounce it "Warshington"?
Reconsider this peeve. Moms like me who put our babies into the carseat from the shopping cart are NOT going to walk our carts to the cart park and leave our babies in the car. I lived in a country where you had to pay a $2 deposit to get the cart out and only got it back when you brought the cart back to the store, and I lost $2 rather than leave my child in the car.
***"Press 1 for English." Aaargggh!***
I hate this also. However, one time I called an establishment and the machine said... and I kid you not... "For faster service, press 1"... no other options, nothing.
The incorrectly used double negative "irregardless."
"Anyways" instead of "anyway."
Guys who resort to calling women "babe" or "sweetheart" when they've been defeated in a discussion or argument. They don't realize that while they're trying to diminish the woman, they are only diminishing themselves.
And grouchy people!
I hate people who hate grouchy people.
;-)
I reinforced that one for you on Post #309.
Hate it, hate it, hate it.
IE: "People that use the pronoun..."
"All of those that forgot their bathing suits can swim nude."
"If you marry someone that wets his bed, you may always end up sleeping on the wet spot."
SEE HOW WRONG THAT SOUNDS???
PEOPLE = who/whom/whose
Your ex-wife? She's not supposed to be your "pet" anything anymore!
;-)
BTW: Some of us have more pets than others: Some of us have a whole PACK of pets! LOL
Self-styled "Christians".
Bushbots/(R)bots.
Those are the worst. My other pet peeves are minor in comparison. :-)
Don't forget adults who say "Valentimes", "Libary" and "Samwhich" or my favorite "I could care less" instead of "couldn't"...
And "pacifically" instead of "specifically."
And "For all intensive purposes." Who came up with that one?
No matter how many times I say "province" in response, she insists on saying "provinence." Drives me up the wall.
Remember "Pachisi"? :>)
