Today is the 4th of July 2005 Americas Birthday which commemorates the Continental Congress adopting the Declaration of Independence on 4th July 1776.
President George W Bush commemorated the day by visiting West Virginia University Morgantown, West Virginia, he gave an address and afterward he greeted the crowd by signing autographs and shaking hands of military personnel.
It was announced today that Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will visit tsunami-hit parts of Thailand next week.
On Saturday Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld acted as Grand Marshall at the Pepsi 400 NASCAR Race at Daytona.
Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island
I read your post quickly and I thought you said you were re-dying your VCR I wondered if you were making it red white and blue in view of the 4th July LOL.
Wow, sorry I missed Rummy at NASCAR. I'll bet he did a good job giving the "start your engines" command. Anybody see it?
Yes, looks to be about....17 or 18? Hard to tell age from photos sometimes though.
Hi homemom, good to see you! How's it going?
Thank you snugs for the great 4th of July photos
from our British bureau chief.
Good evening
No luck, so far. My system keeps locking up. ;o/
For my toaster, please use the pic you found from Eglin AFB, Feb. 4, 2001? And thanks.
Thanks to all of our Military, but I confess, I have a very special place in my heart for the Air Force. And the Navy. And well, you get the picture!
OldFriend:
Yes indeed, HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!!!
snugs2:
Thank you for the AWESOME photo montages! . . . you are such a treasure -- and, yes, I acknowledge the irony of you, a Brit, posting the DOSE on July 4 . . . again, you are a treasure!!
If you have On Demand from Comcast cable, you can catch 'The Crossing' with Jeff Daniels as George Washington on A&E.
I think it really captures what it must have been like for Washington during those times. By happenstance, later in the afternoon, the author of '1776' was interviewed by Brit Hume. He spoke in detail about the privation faced by GW and the army, the might of the English army, and the realization that it is just amazing that we were able to win over such odds.
What remarkable people.
(sorry, Snugs)
THE PRESIDENT GAVE A PASSIONATE, INSPIRATIONAL SPEECH THIS MORNING IN WEST VIRGINIA! . . . You can read the FR reaction as posted on the 'live' thread at

We are so fortunate to have President George W Bush as our Commander in Chief during this time of testing for our country!
The Tribute to the Troops at Ford's Theatre will be on ABC at 10pm in most areas. Here in Phoenix, it will not be aired until midnight in lieu of local fireworks coverage.
I saw it earlier today on A&E, it was awesome! I second your recommendation to everyone.
I have already put your toaster up with picture of Bill Myers I will post the Elgin photo for you shortly and may have found some others from that day
Dont worry it was a long time ago.
I thought maybe you were letting your other personality come out--LOL!
Great pictures--THANKS!
Will there be pictures from the White House later?
the author of '1776' was interviewed by Brit Hume.
Yes, that was a great interview. I love history and
glad to hear this on TV for a change.
A few of my 5th great grandfathers actually saw
George Washington, one came down from New England
when Washington laied the cornerstone of the capitol.
It was a Masonic ceremony and the apron my 5th great
grandfather wore that day with GW is still in
the family.
Good Evening snugs2 (lol) thanks for today's Independence Day Dose. It's so meaningful coming from across the pond as it does today!

Thanks so much for posting this information . . . I don't want to miss this 'tribute'!!!
I'm currently watching the 'Capital Fourth of July Celebration' . . . the same celebration that the President and First Lady are watching from the White House balconey!
