Today is the 4th of July 2005 – America’s Birthday which commemorates the Continental Congress adopting the Declaration of Independence on 4th July 1776.

President George W Bush commemorated the day by visiting West Virginia University Morgantown, West Virginia, he gave an address and afterward he greeted the crowd by signing autographs and shaking hands of military personnel.

It was announced today that Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will visit tsunami-hit parts of Thailand next week.

On Saturday Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld acted as Grand Marshall at the Pepsi 400 NASCAR Race at Daytona.

Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island

Wow, sorry I missed Rummy at NASCAR. I'll bet he did a good job giving the "start your engines" command. Anybody see it?

No luck, so far. My system keeps locking up. ;o/

For my toaster, please use the pic you found from Eglin AFB, Feb. 4, 2001? And thanks.

Thanks to all of our Military, but I confess, I have a very special place in my heart for the Air Force. And the Navy. And well, you get the picture!

If you have On Demand from Comcast cable, you can catch 'The Crossing' with Jeff Daniels as George Washington on A&E.

I think it really captures what it must have been like for Washington during those times. By happenstance, later in the afternoon, the author of '1776' was interviewed by Brit Hume. He spoke in detail about the privation faced by GW and the army, the might of the English army, and the realization that it is just amazing that we were able to win over such odds.

What remarkable people.

(sorry, Snugs)

If you are looking for a bit of levity, Mark Steyn's column about the Live8 is a funny and spot on read.

Happy Independence Day everyone. Thanks for today's Dose, snugs.

The Tribute to the Troops at Ford's Theatre will be on ABC at 10pm in most areas. Here in Phoenix, it will not be aired until midnight in lieu of local fireworks coverage.

the author of '1776' was interviewed by Brit Hume.

Yes, that was a great interview. I love history and
glad to hear this on TV for a change.
A few of my 5th great grandfathers actually saw
George Washington, one came down from New England
when Washington laied the cornerstone of the capitol.
It was a Masonic ceremony and the apron my 5th great
grandfather wore that day with GW is still in
the family.
