Today is the 4th of July 2005 Americas Birthday which commemorates the Continental Congress adopting the Declaration of Independence on 4th July 1776.
President George W Bush commemorated the day by visiting West Virginia University Morgantown, West Virginia, he gave an address and afterward he greeted the crowd by signing autographs and shaking hands of military personnel.
It was announced today that Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will visit tsunami-hit parts of Thailand next week.
On Saturday Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld acted as Grand Marshall at the Pepsi 400 NASCAR Race at Daytona.
Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island

What german State are you working in?I have no idea. Problem is, both of my mother's parents' families came here before Ellis Island so there's nothing for me on that website. And my mom doesn't know either. So I'm really at square-one there. I think my grandfather's mother was born in Germany but came here very young, again before Ellis Island and I haven't been able to get any clues beyond that. And the names are common: Weigand, Bayer

I've used the LDS site for clues, only to steer me in a direction where I can either verify or research independently of it. They have too many entries for the same person, lots of issues with it.

Hello Dosers.. Happy 4th July !!!!
Thanks for ping Pat.. Snugs, I apologize... somehow I missed your ping.. in & out (just of house) a lot today & busy at Finest ... with a LOT of pings from here /there... but I do thank you so much for the hard work & for the lovely pictures & commentary.
My pooch Oliver is traumatized in a major way with fireworks. One reason I passed on outdoor concert with symphony & fireworks at Blossom. A few of the cats are also affected. Poor things. Just don't understand it all.

What german State are you working in?
Baden-Wuertemberg, Hessen, Rheinland-Pfalz, mostly.
I have many books of my own on German research
also I keep files on each German name and basic info
on the town, state, map, etc. which helps when doing
research.
Where did your German folks live in the US? and when?
and their names?
Mine came in 17 & 1800s and I traced them back to 1500s

I always feel sorry for dogs during fireworks my late Gizzy was absolutely petrified when she heard one bag or one flash of light.

For my grandfather, they settled in Pittsburgh, PA. My grandmother was raised on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. I admit my mom's side has received short shrift because my dad's side --especially my grandmother's side-- are much easier.
