What german State are you working in?

I have no idea. Problem is, both of my mother's parents' families came here before Ellis Island so there's nothing for me on that website. And my mom doesn't know either. So I'm really at square-one there. I think my grandfather's mother was born in Germany but came here very young, again before Ellis Island and I haven't been able to get any clues beyond that. And the names are common: Weigand, Bayer

What german State are you working in?

Baden-Wuertemberg, Hessen, Rheinland-Pfalz, mostly.

I have many books of my own on German research
also I keep files on each German name and basic info
on the town, state, map, etc. which helps when doing
research.
Where did your German folks live in the US? and when?
and their names?
Mine came in 17 & 1800s and I traced them back to 1500s
