Many Freepers grew up in what they considered to be the golden age of Rock concerts. Of course, it may have had more to do with the fact that we were young and fanatical about the music in our youth. These days, ol Pissant prefers the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Military Band music and Jazz, but I have some very fond memories of the craziness of my Rock concert yesteryears. Im quite sure many of you have some concert stories that rival and surpass mine. So this thread is the place to share!
Following are 2 concert experiences that left a permanent scar on me! ;o)
Dylan is my all time fave. I've seen him 6 or 7 times starting in 1979.
Born on date.....1964
>>Tull and ZZ Top<<
I concur! That was be sensational. I just missed ZZ Top this time around...
That reminds me of a Barenaked Ladies song. ;-)
I saw VH in 1986 in San Diego.
Robert Plant, Cap Center, Landover, MD, July 16, 1990 - finally got to see The Man, right at his solo commercial height, after having huge (and five-star, IMHO) albums with Shaken-n-Stirred, Now and Zen, and Manic Nirvana. Took my Chinese squeeze with me - she had on idea who he was, but she got an education as to who the grandaddy of rock frontmen was. The show was tight and top-heavy with his best stuff - and it was the first tour he'd performed Zeppelin material since Bonzo died. Man, we'd heard the rumors about about it (back in those pre-Internet days), but when the house lights went down, we held our collective breath. Then, out of the darkness, came that classic, sonic opening riff to 'Nobody's Fault But Mine'. The place had a collective, screaming orgasm. From there on, it was downhill at warp speed. Everyone wondered if he still had the chops to hit those banshee-like high notes (he was only 41 at the time, fer chrissakes, but that was old when you're only 27! LOL), but he went over the top on everything in his set list. He even did our own Viking Kitty anthem, 'Immigrant Song'. Man, to hear That Voice doing so much of what we'd heard on the radio growing up, and which he swore he'd never sing again out of respect to the band's legacy - that was a special concert.

The most memorable concert I've been to was in the early '70s in Denver. Started out with a little known band (at that time) called The Eagles. Then, Edgar Winter came out for a while, and Yes closed the show.
I love your post! I agree that is too cool!
Monsters of Rock
June 23, 1988
I didn't actually ATTEND this concert...I listened and watched what I could from a friend's front porch across the street from the Rubber Bowl in Akron, OH. Let's just say my mom said I was "too young" to go...but I heard everyone and they were great-esp. Dokken and Metallica!! Couldn't see much though since we were a good 1/4 mile away...
Poison/Ratt/Great White/LA Guns
Summer 1999
Let's just say it was fun and leave it at that...
Ted kicks a$$-one of the best guitarists alive!
Oingo Boingo in 1989 at the Boathouse in Norfolk, VA. We won the tickets, plus backstage passes. My very favorite show ever. They were awesome!
I was engaged to a gal, along time ago, whose father was good friends with Eric Burdon. He played harp and would jam with Eric. His wife, my potential Mom-in-Law, played flute and would jam ocassionally. Eric gave my fiance's father some of his gold records (couldn't have been many) He subsequently sold them for drugs.
Hey, I'm not even a Zep fan, but you made that sound pretty awesome!
Wow...that's even younger than me.
Alice is a Republican-that's one thing to remember...
Well, as a USAF reservist and a medic, I get the honer of helping bring back the Wounded Warriors, it is the best feeling, to know you are a part of such a noble cause. I get to go back in Aug and I can hardly wait.
PS. I really enjoy your post...you get to the heart of the matter... and most are very funny...
Whoa. What a interesting mix! I used to love Yes!
Still a huge Tull fan.
