Thanks, I prefer round and round even if it is open wheel.

THE sexiest driver is in that race, Jeff and Jr can take a hike. ;)

Can I get an Amen?

AMEN!

It was a good race until the rain started. I finally gave up about 10:30, I think, and went to bed.

That track sounds like the days of old when you could get into the pits easier than now. At the big tracks you either pay through the nose or in the case of garage passes have to know someone to get you that "hot" pass.

Carl Edwards stops to replace the shock were amazing, the crew were in perfect sync. I was wondering why he didn't get out of the car when they first stopped them for rain and get going back to Sonoma since he had a 4 hour flight ahead of him. I can only guess that maybe the relief driver had left already. He was funny explaining how during the day he and friends went to get his haircut then they decided to go swimming at a public pool. Must have been a thrill for those there that day, he even did a backflip off the diving board. Jack Rousch is probably pulling his hair out.

I'm really looking forward to your pics of the drivers. It had to be great fun to listen to Kenny holding court. His laugh is so infectious. They even did a story on him before the race regarding his laugh. Rusty hates it, and other drivers make fun of him but at the same time they all love him. Amazing how he and Rusty are so different. I didn't watch 360 so I don't know what the diaper line is, but I can imagine.

I will have to go look for the final finish report. I know Sauter was first, Truex second. The earlier penalty on Sauter was unfair since it appeared the 33 car bobbled or came down to go into the pits and Sauter hit him. How did it look from your vantage point? Although, since he was one of only two cars on the lead lap it didn't hurt him that much except put him in traffic.

Sounds like you had a fabulous time and almost had a rain free weekend!! It's so much fun getting first hand reports from the track. Thanks!

Good Morning all. What was the deal on Hornadays penalty with the lug nut. I was away from the TV when it happened...

It was definitely a steal at $55 for the 2-day 2-series weekend, and even if they had declared the pits "hot", the fence separating the paddock and the pits was close enough to catch much of the action (which made the pits themselves more than a bit cramped). In fact, a couple of the pits are on the angled entrance to pit road (Committment line? What committment line?)

Roush sure knows how to find them, especially lately. Carl was definitely interested in running those last 50, and given the weather I ran into on the way home near the airport (heavy thundershowers), that probably cost him some more time. Even if he came in at one of the smaller airports that can handle business jets, that line was long and widespread.

Like I said, watching 360 with Kenny and company was THE highlight. The laugh is what drew people in (well, Rusty had to listen to it his whole life). He's definitely an upbeat person, and is always willing to take time out for the fans (he had a Sharpie handy for autographs during that rain delay, and came out to pose for pictures with the fans during the commercials). No wonder why he got some serious cheers in driver introductions.

From what I gather (through TP video), they were very strict with the lug nuts. An official even ran in front of Johnny's car when he saw that one of the front-left lugs was loose. As for the penalty, with it happening in turn 4, I had to watch replays either on crews' TVs or one of the Jumbotrons on either end of the frontstretch (could only catch the frontstretch and turn 1 from the pits). It sure as heck was intentional though (plus it put several other cars back on the lead lap).

Pics should be up about 12:30 or so Central (not enough time between now and when I leave for church to get them done).

Some NASCAR official thought they missed one of them on the left-rear.

Sounds like you still had a good time, even with the rain shortened race. Patiently awaiting the pics!

Why do NASCAR fans so hate the road courses? It’s interminably dull to watch them race at identical 1.5 mile ovals every weekend. At least at a road course they have to break, turn and shift.

First off, only someone who does not follow Nascar would say "1. All ovals are the same, and 2. Road courses are the only ones where drivers have to brake, turn, shift."

But to answer your first question, why do I hate the road courses, it is because I hate "single-file racing." That is what I (me, personally) find "intermindably dull." And you can get single-file racing at some of the oval tracks as well! And I find those races just as dull. But at least it is not encouraged like it is on road courses.

While I'm waiting for the pics to transfer from the camera to the PC, I got a bad-news story from the local NASCAR talk show, Let's Talk NASCAR (they archive the shows, but this morning's show hasn't yet been archived). Seems the Busch garage got "just a bit" crowded on Friday, and NASCAR decided to send the hauler drivers in a half-hour early Saturday to move their rigs up some to create more room. Only problem was, nobody told the track security, and they followed previous orders to keep the garage closed until 8 and blocked the drivers from entering the garage. A big brouhaha ensued, with phone calls, headsets being thrown, and a quote from a NASCAR official, "That's okay; we're not going to be here next year anyway."

Let's hope that was only in the "heat of the moment" type comment. The smaller/shorter tracks are the roots of Nascar and always have plenty of action. Even when a driver puts all others a lap down. :)

The track's in a state of flux. The state (which owns it and the rest of State Fair Park) fired Carl Haas as the promoter late last year after a bunch of years of him doing the promoting and a recent rebuild (2001-2002) of all the seats (which desperately needed it; the grandstands dated back to a WPA project). Seems that despite the success of NASCAR, the introduction of night racing, and the fact that last year, Milwaukee became one of the few tracks where both ChampCar and IRL competed, they lost their shirts.

Speaking of ovals, did you hear that Bruton Smith is talking about a oval at Sears Point.? If he does I hope it is a Bull Ring with seating for 100,000 ...
