Tom Cruise proposes on Eiffel Tower

Tom Cruise is engaged to his girlfriend Katie Holmes, after proposing to her in the early hours of this morning at the Eiffel Tower. The actor confirmed the proposal at a Paris press conference, where the 26-year-old actress sat beside him wearing a large diamond ring.

"Yes, I proposed to her... it was early this morning at the Eiffel Tower, so I haven’t slept at all," said the 42-year-old star of Top Gun and the Mission Impossible series.

Holmes appears in the upcoming Batman Begins and achieved fame in the American television series, Dawson's Creek, before attracting critical acclaim in the film, Pieces of April.

The couple announced their relationship in April, after Cruise broke up with Spanish actress Penelope Cruz and Holmes and actor Chris Klein called off their long-standing engagement.

Holmes will become Cruise's third wife. His two previous marriages, to actresses Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman, have ended in divorce.

Today's announcement may end speculation that the Cruise-Holmes relationship has been a publicity stunt.

Their wedding will be a dream come true for the actress who told a magazine last October - before she even met Cruise - that when she was a little girl, "I used to think I was going to marry Tom Cruise".

Cruise, one of the world's most bankable stars, is in Paris to promote Stephen Spielberg's latest film, War of the Worlds, in which he plays Ray Ferrier, an ordinary man leading the fight against alien invaders. The film opens in Britain on July 1.

I just saw him on Fox,

"The premier (War of the Worlds) we wanted here in Paris because it was beautiful and romantic and yes I proposed to her last night"

This man does know how to make money, I will grant you. Perhaps he should use some to buy a clue to the rest of life.

There is a slew of Hollywood types who have been rumored to be gay. My guess is some may be, but others not. Usually these rumors get floated in an effort to kill someone's career. Funny thing is that nowadays, if you are gay, it's no longer the career-ender it once was. In fact, it seems that Hollywood embraces gays rather than shuns them.

I doubt seriously that being gay would end his career. And yes, there've been many a Hollywood type rumored to be gay, but I had always thought those rumors were started by the gay community, rather than by someone trying to destroy an actor's career.

Then again, what the heck to I know...

I remember Rock Hudson -- all those years having to hide his homosexuality...even to the point of marrying for a brief period. In his day, being gay would have killed his career for sure. Toward the end of his life, when it was finally revealed for sure, Hollywood and most of his fans rallied to him. Wouldn't have happened years ago.

Cruise has been a bit exuberant lately. He just about had a seizure on Oprah' show. I really am surprised he didn't jump off the tower to show how excited he is. He probably would have bounced all the way back up.

Every male celebrity gets accused of being gay about twice a week...I guess some immature people have nothing better to do than spread rumors.

It may not end his career, but I think it'd probably weaken his box office power. It'd kill a lot of wistful fantasies, and that has to have a commercial impact.

I wonder if he is manic depressive. I also wonder if he will treat this wife any better than he treated the last one.

From today's NYPOST PAGE SIX:

JUST ASKING

WHICH top leading man interviewed three different starlets for the job of girlfriend/future wife before picking his new beloved? "Mark my words: They'll have a baby," said our source. "Maybe he or she will be conceived in a petri dish, but they'll procreate" . . .

He is one mixed up man--a possibly manic depressive closeted gay Scientologist who is seeing his movie career being surpassed by Brad Pitt and others. She better run.

WAKE UP!

Sorry ... it's just that I get frustrated when the entire MSM makes an all out effort to convince the huddled masses that Tom Cruise's dysfunctional personal life is news worthy. Does anyone really give a sh*t? I want to read about important things ... like report number seventy-three on the latest developments in the 'runaway bride' controversy, or analysis number fifty on the decision making process of the Michael Jackson jury. I can stand only stand so much of all this superficial CRAP!
