I am making a request to my FReeper friends for prayers for my husband's cousin and his newborn baby.

Baby Ella Mae was born yesterday at a healthy 8 lbs. 3 oz. However she developed an infection which they believe may be a staph infection and has been struggling since birth. She is currently on intravenous antibiotics.

Please say a prayer for precious Ella Mae that she will be well and go home with her mother and father soon. Ella Mae is their firts child.

Also, can any medical field FReepers fill me in on how serious this can be?

Heavenly Father, we return to thank You for the birth of this beautiful baby ... look with mercy upon her and her parents, O God ... touch Ella Mae with healing, that she might quickly recover and prosper. Let not this infection overwhelm her, but let her distress be overwhelmed with prayer. Grant all wisdom and guidance to her medical team, that they not only be circumspect in her care, but that they would find the source of her infection and eliminate it as well. Linezolid improves survival rate in patients with hospital-acquired pneumonia
SEATTLE--A study comparing two drugs regularly used to treat a common type of drug-resistant hospital-acquired pneumonia found that patients taking linezolid were twice as likely to survive as those taking vancomycin. The study is being presented at the American Thoracic Society International Conference in Seattle.

The analysis looked at data from two earlier studies comparing linezolid and vancomycin, with a total of 160 patients with Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) hospital-acquired, or nosocomial, pneumonia. MRSA nosocomial pneumonia is the number one single microorganism that causes pneumonia in hospitalized patients, according to lead investigator Richard Wunderink, M.D."

If vancomycin is being used without success, ask if it is possible to use linezolid instead.
