information needed about 1st gun purchase

Posted on 05/15/2005 8:37:08 PM PDT by rosy_toes

I am a US citizen & my British husband is a lawful, DOCUMENTED, permanent resident (he has to wait another 17 months before he can become a citizen). We want to buy a handgun, for personal safety in our home. Does anyone know; would the fact that he is not yet a citizen effect us getting a gun?

I have a CRAZY relative (brother), who has sworn to kill me (he attacked me at Christmas, breaking 2 of my fingers, giving me a fat lip & black eye - yet, believe it or not, when Police arrived, I WAS ARRESTED, apparently because I was crying & upset - he DEMANDED the DA take me to trail, but thank God a jury of my peers saw the injustice & aquitted me of all charges).

He was really pissed that I was aquitted & has now (5 months later) gone so far as to say, to a friend, that he could get to me, in my home, 1 late night & strangle me to death, long before the police could arrive to help me (we live in the country & my husband works nights every 2 months - which he knows).

The Judge that presided over my case, was outraged that the DA further victimised me & that I was the real VICTIM. She also knew that [he] is a very serious risk to me, so she asked me after the verdict was read, if I wanted her to issue a restraining order to protect myself, which of course I did/do (this I am told is VERY unusual for a presiding Judge to ask me if I wanted RO) - but I know that this piece of paper will not stop him from killing me, if & when he should decide to.

[His] recent comments (2 weeks ago) about breaking in to my house & strangling me, has now convinced me that I MUST take some steps to protect myself & my family (I have a 1 yr old, 3 yr old & 5 yr old), but I know nothing of guns & I have no idea where to go to find out. I want to be able to trust the sources in which I get the informtion, because I am such a novice.

I love & trust this website & forum, so I thought that my fellow Republicans could help me. I am really scared. He is HUGE (outwieghs me by 250 pounds), he was in the Marines for 2 years in the 80's (although he was asked to leave, or be thrown out for pulling a gun on a Master SGT).

I have ordered pepper spray (for BEAR, because he is the size of a bear) to use for protection, until I am able to get some information about buying a gun and make a purchase.

I live in Washington State - PLEASE HELP ME, I don't know where else to turn.

When on patrol, we worried about a lot of things....one of which was BOGUS info.

So Jesse, start the popcorn and grab a couple cold ones. Don't want to miss the show!

Thinking you have to take questions asked trolls seriously is ridiculous.

I don't think I "have" to, I thought the issues raised were interesting. Not now, the thread is full of garbage.

Still funny to me, but I probably have a much more boring life than yours.

If I happen upon a thread about something I don't think is worth my time or if it involves something I don't think is funny or whatever, I move on.

I agree a shotgun is a good choice. Get a double barrel side-by-side,with double triggers, and external hammers. Use #6 buckshot. Just don't pull both triggers at the same time. A Russian made Bounty Hunter is a 21" side-by-side cowboy model that is easy to move around in close quarters and is very inexpensive and uses REAL WOOD stock. You can cock the gun, release the safety and be ready to use the weapon in mil a seconds. Makes for a good club when emptied, no plastic.
I Like the external hammers because you can unload the gun and not have to dry fire (release the firing pin with no shells in the chamber) the gun to uncock it. I like the auto safety "ON" when you close the weapon after loading or unloading it. Also the Defender pump shotguns (shot barreled of 21 inches;) are good for home defense. You see the police use this style. I Hope you never have to use them but in this day an age you must do what one has to do protect ones self and family.

"Yep, got a .44 mag blackhawk for the little woman."

I don't know if I would reccommend a .44 mag for a little woman. My wife totes a .357 Ladysmith (3") or a S+W .357 686 (4"). With the fairly new Federal personal defense load- 130 gr JHP.

rosy_toes, if you don't come out and play with us soon, I'm going to leave this thread. Where are you anyway? Are you back on DU making up some story about how you fooled the Freepers?

Oh yeah.

I've got my dream one all picked out....but no WAY am I giving out anymore info.

You know what I resent about this, if it turns out to be a troll? This person KNEW we Freepers would be kind enough to CARE that she and her children were in danger. This person KNOWS that we know our guns and gun laws. Yet this person, if a troll, used our kindness to try to get to us, for some unknown (yet) reason...and THAT ticks me off.

PB, I'm just sayin'.. If my brother threatened me or the kids, my husband would kick his ass. End of story. The brother would be looking on the internet to find a new set of balls to wear to his senior prom.

Yep. But, since said troll "trusts" us, he/she would already know where to look for all the information needed.

Anyway...I've got stuff to do. I'll check back later.

Dreamin' about the new revolver......... ;)

I'm not going to get in an argument with you over the likes of that troll. You go ahead and believe her. I'll go ahead and not believe her. That way we're both happy. She's as phoney as a three dollar bill.

ZOT me tender, ZOT me true. ZOT me baby, I love you.

Hey, is it just me, or is there always at least one persistent sackcloth and ashes poster on every one of these threads where we cut loose, wagging their finger at us for having a little fun?

This isn't the House of Lords.

Well "Toots" was raised with the boys from West Virginia and thinks those are "cute" but prefers the 44. She's shot better than a dozen different pistols and is more accurate with the heavy frame on the Mag.
