information needed about 1st gun purchase

Posted on 05/15/2005 8:37:08 PM PDT by rosy_toes

I am a US citizen & my British husband is a lawful, DOCUMENTED, permanent resident (he has to wait another 17 months before he can become a citizen). We want to buy a handgun, for personal safety in our home. Does anyone know; would the fact that he is not yet a citizen effect us getting a gun?

I have a CRAZY relative (brother), who has sworn to kill me (he attacked me at Christmas, breaking 2 of my fingers, giving me a fat lip & black eye - yet, believe it or not, when Police arrived, I WAS ARRESTED, apparently because I was crying & upset - he DEMANDED the DA take me to trail, but thank God a jury of my peers saw the injustice & aquitted me of all charges).

He was really pissed that I was aquitted & has now (5 months later) gone so far as to say, to a friend, that he could get to me, in my home, 1 late night & strangle me to death, long before the police could arrive to help me (we live in the country & my husband works nights every 2 months - which he knows).

The Judge that presided over my case, was outraged that the DA further victimised me & that I was the real VICTIM. She also knew that [he] is a very serious risk to me, so she asked me after the verdict was read, if I wanted her to issue a restraining order to protect myself, which of course I did/do (this I am told is VERY unusual for a presiding Judge to ask me if I wanted RO) - but I know that this piece of paper will not stop him from killing me, if & when he should decide to.

[His] recent comments (2 weeks ago) about breaking in to my house & strangling me, has now convinced me that I MUST take some steps to protect myself & my family (I have a 1 yr old, 3 yr old & 5 yr old), but I know nothing of guns & I have no idea where to go to find out. I want to be able to trust the sources in which I get the informtion, because I am such a novice.

I love & trust this website & forum, so I thought that my fellow Republicans could help me. I am really scared. He is HUGE (outwieghs me by 250 pounds), he was in the Marines for 2 years in the 80's (although he was asked to leave, or be thrown out for pulling a gun on a Master SGT).

I have ordered pepper spray (for BEAR, because he is the size of a bear) to use for protection, until I am able to get some information about buying a gun and make a purchase.

I live in Washington State - PLEASE HELP ME, I don't know where else to turn.

The issues can be discussed on legitimate threads from legitimate posters.

I wouldn't want to discuss politics on atrolling thread started by a newbie trolling anymore than I would want to discuss a hypothetical gun purchase that will only take place in some sad person's imagination.

The poster at this point deserves nothing but ridicule and suspicion.

"She" started this thread, and "she" hasn't replied. There are plenty of other posts in which to discuss gun and violence-related issues, . "This" is a troll and some of us have fun when we zot them. Sorry if that offends your sensibilities.

If I had her issues I'd go on a street corner and get one to protect my kids from harm if I had too. She had a lawyer, she could have asked him.

She ain't no spring chick, hopefully she's smart enough being nearly 35, I beleieve, how to pick up a phone and use it to call the police station and inquire about owning a gun. She can call a pawn shop for that matter, they sell guns and would know the ends and outs of purchasing one...they have to do the paperwork if you buy one.

She sounds phoney.

Well, I don't know if your story is phony or real, but I've spoken with other women whose husbands punched them, and then told the police they started it. One was sitting there with a black eye, and they offered to arrest her on the spot. So, that part of your story seems plausible to me.

If you are for real, then go ahead and get a restraining order. But that piece of paper won't do much. I know nothing about firearms, except that I've been told a shotgun is the best because you're more likely to hit the target. But I'd say the better option would be to pick up your family and MOVE... somewhere where your brother can't find you.

Again, if you're for real, call a Domestic Violence hotline and see if they can help you.

Why isn't her hubby protecting her and her kids? I know mine would do.

Really. What did she get him, a can of mace? If her brother is coming after her, why get her hubby the mace?

He breaks your fingers and they arrest your BIL?

I think you are making this whole thing up. Please take a picture of the police and arrest reports post it on this thread.

And taking trolls seriously was never funny

or productive.

all the "zot" stuff is silly. Thinking you have to take questions asked trolls seriously is ridiculous.

'She' doesn't matter, for purposes of discussion. You guys are missing an opportunity to just discuss the issues, and are instead much more interested in this very tired Zot Mania.

I understand what you're saying, my first post to It expressed my suspicion but also offered my advice (shotgun with #6 shot). Since then, I've just been having fun.

Yeah, so... otherwise smart people post all kinds of threads every day asking questions that the first person with access to Google could answer.
