I have run spybot and it didn't see it.
I despise MS' model for adding "features" to IE.
Format C:\ usually works.
"MY Search" is one tough nut to crack. I had to do a reinstall to rid myself of all its little insidious components.
What is a MYSearch bar? I have IE... I know not what you speak of.
An IE toolbar providing search features, and a homepage-/search-hijacker, targeted at the sites run by MyWay. (The same people as iWon.com, writers of the Aornum parasite.)
MySearch/MySearch was the first variant, targeted at mysearch.com.
MySearch/MyWay uses different filenames and is targeted at myway.com itself.
MySearch/MyWeb is a new variant targeted at mywebsearch.com.
MyWay Speed Bar.
The MySearch and MyWay variants have been bundled with Grokster, Morpheus, WeatherBug, and software from mgshareware.com. MySearch has also been installed by the FavoriteMan parasite.
The MyWeb variant is bundled with software (Popswatter, SmileyCentral, My Mail Stamp) from Fun Web Products (also the same people as MyWay).
MySearch/MyWay is pre-installed on some new Dell computers from November 2004.
No. (The search results may contain advertising, but the toolbar itself does not generate any.)
No.
Usually, no. There is an update feature, but it prompts you before running code.
In some versions of the MyWeb variant, yes: it is installed by an ActiveX downloader control which stays around leaving a backdoor for future installation. In newer versions, this control does not remain.
None known.
Open Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. Select the My Search Bar (MySearch variant), MyWay Speed Bar (MyWay) or My Web Search Bar (MyWeb) entry and click Remove. For the MyWeb variant, be sure to also remove Fun Web Products Easy Installer.
You can then reset your home page (Internet Options->General->Start Page) if it has been changed, and search settings (Internet Options->Programs->Reset web settings).
MyWay site
FYI: MySearch bar is not a product of Microsoft and, therefore, not a feature of IE. Check to make sure there's no MySearch under Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. Check to make sure you don't have MySearchBar in your Program Files folder. In addition, it wouldn't hurt to check for instances of it in the registry either.
Not being sarcastic but I eventually had enough of IE's required upgrades and foibles so I installed Mozilla and haven't been happier. Internet Explorer was actually crashing because the "corrective" components wouldn't work with the basic program. Who's fooling who, Mr Gates?
Retain an IE shortcut for Microsoft updates and the rare site that's stupidly configured to work with it alone. In their never-ceasing attempt to attain cyber-imperialism Microsoft won't allow updates through any non-Microsoft applications. May the Farce be with you.
I would recommend to DUMP the ie and go with the Firefox! Since I got it, I have little to no problems with my surfing the web.
1. Make a bootable floppy, copy fdisk to it.
2. Boot from the floppy.
3. Run fdisk. Choose option 4, then option 1. Answer Y to all questions.
4. Problem solved.
Oh wait, that'll delete the OS(and everything else).
Nevermind.
ps. Use Firefox instead.
Go to http://www.pchell.com
Look down the middle lane...mywebsearch is listed there.

This is the page for the directions for mysearch. Hope it helps
To remove spyware, I would first start by opening the Control Panel and removing anything that looked suspicious. Then I would follow all the suggestions on this site http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 If that don't remove all of the spyware, I would then open the Task Manager and look the running programs and find out if they are important (do a google search, if you can't identify a running program it may be part of the problem). And I would go to msconfig and stop any unknown programs from running on start up (google search to help identify known files).
Although I was grateful for the suggestion at the time, it didn't work for me the other day.
However, another poster suggested a potted geranium, so I set one on top of the box.
Within three hours the screeching hard drive had quieted down and the smoke ceased its billowing.
Perhaps it was merely some odd vegetable/mineral symbiosis, but I'm more inclined to believe it was a true miracle, and a further sign of the end times©.
This is not a MS problem, it's an add-on spyware tool that this person installed. It's no different than the add on tools you can add to Firefox. Some are good, some are crap.
