Comments on the Schiavo story have now become repetitive, argumentative and increasingly ugly. Posters are losing their privileges for attacking and spamming. We feel we are serving our readers by posting articles but not allowing threads for comment. By doing this we save our members from themselves and preserve their ability to post.If subject is introduced on threads that are not about the Sciavo story they will be deleted.

By way of disclaimer, I'm a yankee-in-remission. But I do recognize that spirited political debate can cause rifts. I'm reluctant to discuss the TS case with my family.
That said, FR is a political website where spirited debate is common. On subjects such as this one, the rhetoric gets very heated. It's to be expected. Personally, I prefer that to the sort of "cover-up-our-differences-and-hope-they-go-away" reaction that is the hallmark of political correctness.

That's why my family is fractured and I have to go to several Easter celebrations.
All kidding and stonecrushing (almost as good a word as ilk) aside, it is depressing and scary when you understand the ramifications of what is going on in this case. People are talking about it and debating it here because this is a good place to do it.
Once in a while I even change my mind. It isn't going to happen this time, but I've lurked and listened and posted once or twice.
Well, that brings forth the burning question about this issue and FR.
ARe people of the same ilk allowed to have differences. Can they remain of the same ilk while agreeing on most things but not agreeing on other things. Even big things.
I submit our ilk is a big tent. And there are no evil people here, just people who see life or death issues differently.
But our ilk all seem to think an injustice is done here. A terrible cruelty. WE differ on who is to blame, what is to be done and whether this signals the end of our country. Some see this as a battle, others as a war, and some the apocalypse. Some see a terrible sad family drama, others a constitutional crises and others the battle of good and evil.
Does that mean you will change your mind and let me back in your ilk??
This is indeed a wrenching thing happening on so many levels I go back and forth myself.
That being said, there comes a point where someone like me has to say 'I'm no longer one of them (Republicans).'
The people I elected to protect my liberty let an innocent woman die in front of the entire world. That makes a lot of people (including me) angry and disappointed.
Whether this signals the end of our country, I think it depends on what you mean by 'our country.' I think it's a clear signal that we do not have the Constitutional Republic that was envisioned by the people who risked everything to get it started. That's a fact.
As far as my opinion is concerned, I think that the Commies put one over on us and stacked the courts while inculcating Socialism into our children and our society to the point where even otherwise logical people think that the judiciary has the final say. They don't.
Incidentally, I think that this is everything you said in your last post: a terrible sad family drama, a constitutional crisis and a battle between good and evil. And I think our side has lost on all fronts.
Lastly, I have a friend that is on Jeb Bush's staff. She's been telling me for YEARS that he's the man. He's been one of the people I admire the most in this party. I think he failed me, us and Ms. Schiavo, and I am deeply, deeply upset about it.

Just got to this thread and haven't read all posts, but---
Lucianne's decision is totally scary to me---jeez, since when did disagreements and debates become a "sin"---that is what is fundamental about our country, where no one king or dictator tells us what we must and must not think or talk about---
Please, any of you Freepers that agree with Lucianne's policy ought to think twice....a long time ago I tried to sign up on that site and was told it was "full up, no openings for new posters"---Whats up with that? and before you ask, NO this "rant" is not because of that---
I found FR because Lucianne turned me down, and it is the best thing that has happened to me and that is why I am so adamant about NOT stopping any debate on this our any other subject---that thought is scary beyond belief, IMHO
