All three cats made it home after the appointment, and they took off running for their hiding spots after being released from their pet taxis.....all but one.
Casey, my computer friend, she threw up, deficated and urinated inside of her pet taxi 20 mins after the vaccinations. I pulled her from the pet taxi (which was disgusting) and washed off her bottom in the sink. She was as limp as a wet noodle and had a high heart rate and was having breathing difficulty. I called the vet and rushed her back in at his request because he thinks she went into anaphylatic shock. She was given a cocktail of steroids, benadryl and some other kind of antihistamine (sp). She had a really hard day from 9am-midnight last night, and was not eating or drinking for 24 hours.
This morning, my vet called to me to see if she had eaten or drank any water, which she hadn't. He told me to meet him at the clinic for some intraveinous fluids and a cortizone shot. She was still limp, breathing heavily, and just plain exhausted. She urinated twice during the night, and threw up twice (not food, just bile I think).
Anyways, I just got back home from vet, who gave me the IV bag and some ultra-high calorie paste (nutrical) that I am to feed her every 8 hours. We did an xray and showed no fluid build up in the lungs or abdomen, but the blood test was less than satisfactory. Her kidney levels showed failure and liver numbers were higher than they should be. He didn't know if that was because of the vaccines, or something else, possibly something called F.I.V. some sort of wierd and hard to diagnose feline virus.
He said that she had a 25 percent chance of survival and said to give it until Mon, AM to see if she improves. He is the kind of vet that thinks that she needs a chance to see if she can pull through or not. She is 12.5 years old and weighs almost 7lbs.
I am wondering if there is any input that all the viking kitty owners or freeper vets/pet caretakers had that would help me. She crawled 4 feet out of her pet taxi a few mins ago and just collapsed, looking exhausted. I will feed and re-hydrate her sub-cutaneously (sp) at 9pm cst tonight.
Prayers for Casey and me would be appreciated as well as any advice. I have never had a sick kitty or had to bury one yet.
Thanks, Chris
I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty friend being ill. I don't have any experience with something like this, but it definitely sounds like a bad reaction to a vaccine or medication. Which dewormer did they receive?
I will pray for Casey. Poor kitty, may God heal your little computer friend...
Sick kitty ping...
On the other hand, seven lbs is not much weight for a full grown cat.
Give the fluids, nutrition, and keep her away from the other cats in case this is a contagious problem, as well as to minimize stress for her. Follow up first thing Monday--although your worried veterinarian may call you first.
Good luck. Sick kitties can break your heart.
Prayers.
Look here - I think it may be the dewormer. The keep symptom is liver and kidney failure...

What is the name of the dewormer? I'll look it up for you...
If it's renal failure, you've just got to put them down. It's very painful for the cat. And at 12 years old it may be God's timing. I learned the hard way that our little family members depend on us for this last gift of peace. Think of the quality of life and the pain. Pooping and peeing on themselves is undignified. I wouldn't want to live like that, either. Keeping them hydrated is critical.
FIV IIRC is AIDS for cats. It is not communicable to people but is I think very contagious to other cats! I also think it is not curable and lethal. I'll send a prayer up for the kitty and for you for peace and courage.
It may help to think of the Rainbow Bridge:
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing--they each miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face, your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...

DCBryan1, My prayers go up for you and your Kitty. God's healing hand over your precious pet. Lord, please heal Casey. Give her strength to overcome her illness. Comfort her human. In Jesus' precious name. Amen
Pegita - thank you for the ping.
Blessings,
trussell
If you want on/off my prayer ping list, please let me know. All requests happily honored.
Offering my prayers
The only thing I can offer are my hopes and good thoughts for you and the kitty. I so hope she gets better. I have 2 indoor cats but Victor is pretty wiley and often tries to sneak out. I glanced out of the window one morning and saw a little grey and white body in the street and almost threw up. It was NOT Victor. I know how worried you are.
Carolyn

Done. Please keep us posted on Casey's progress.
Prayers for your tiny kitty going up. Every time I have my oldest cat vaccinated, he gets sick, has a fever and hides under the bed for at least three days. I call the vet each time and am told that it has nothing to do with the vaccines, although, I've never been sure. Please let us know how the kitty is doing, hugs to you.
[Freepmail me to get on or off the Kitty Ping List.]
I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty. Our "cat" is 7 years old and 20 lbs. Ditto had a bad bladder problem a few years back and fortunately the vet on call that day was excellent. Prayers going up for you and your kitty
I am so sorry, and will keep the both of you in mind, and send good thoughts.
My heart aches for you.
I am so sorry about your kitty. Could your little 'girl' be eating something that is making her ill? Our cat (Norbert who is 12.5 years old) was extremely sick late last year with similar symptoms. Blood/urine tests came back with high liver numbers and "huge platelets". He was listless and staggering etc. The vet told us to prepare for the worst case... We had to take him in several times because he was so dehydrated etc. He threw up a lot of bile etc. and lost his bowels a few times. Anyway, it turned out he was eating a plant I had brought home from my sister's place, and that was making him sick. We had a lot of plants in the house for years with NO problems, until Norbert decided he liked the long stringy leaves on this particular plant. We took the plant out of the house and he's been better ever since. One thing we tried to hydrate Norbert was to feed him pedialyte with a dropper. It seemed to help him a bit. Prayers for your kitty! I hope she gets better soon. Keep us posted.
