Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And take the hidden paths that run...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

"Stricken, smitten, and afflicted,
See Him dying on the tree!
'Tis the Christ by man rejected;
Yes, my soul, 'tis He! 'tis He!
'Tis the long-expected Prophet,
David's Son, yet David's Lord;
Proofs I see sufficient of it:
'Tis the true and faithful Word."

This is a pretty cool shot. You can see how little snow there is on the surrounding hills. They should still be white this time of year.

How about "Get Away, Jordan?"
"Milky White Way?"
"Ezekiel Saw The Wheel?"

If it helps your perspective on this, I was raised Methodist, and attented a Baptist church in High school, then in college was confirmed Lutheran. Still, I have never heard of those three songs/hymns.

That is a awesome shot!
Really puts some perspective on how BIG that cloud is.

Huh... I know Baptists sing it, and I'm pretty sure I've seen it in a Lutheran hymnbook. I swear it's not just a Presyterian thing, I think I remember singing it at an Assembly of God church...

I don't think I recall those either.

Ah, no... 'fraid not... they probably require a congregation that can sing in something beside 4/4 time and two-part harmony, right?

Seriously, the congregations I've been part of generally have been somewhat unethusiastic about anything slightly difficult to sing. You should have heard the lack of singing last time someone tried "Oh How a Rose E'er Blooming" at Christmastime.

Eh, I grew up in a very northern white-bread Presbyterian church. I know how they sing! ;)

I resemble that remark...
Hey, after waiting for you to get the fives, couldn't you at least put in a graphic?

I didn't have time, with only 9 seconds between posts.
Besides, the "Fives" graphic I have is actually five fives... I feel like I'm stretching it already to use it for four fives.

I looked in my 1982 Lutheran hymnal, and the first two were in there, but I still cannot account for the third.
I am used to hearing "All Glory, Laud, and Honor," "From Calvary's Cross I Heard Christ Say," and "Jesus, in Your Dying Woes" for Passion Week. Hmm, interesting.

Third may be new, or may be enjoying a revival.
We sing "All Glory, Laud and Honor" but I don't recall there being a special Easter connotation. The others are familiar - probably they're in the hymnbook but I haven't sung them.
Also Eastertide songs: "Up From the Grave" and "Christ the Lord is Risen Today". And more modern, "Morning Sun".

mmm, Easter hymns! I would be VERY surprised if I didn't hear "Christ the Lord is Risen Today," or, "The Strife is O'er, the Battle Done."
