Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And take the hidden paths that run...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

As short as my mom's real suffering period was with her Cancer (she was really only hospitalized at the end for three days) as she lay there unconscious on Morphine and failing, I said to her husband Frank... "Frank, I don't mean this the wrong way, but I hope we just get hit by a truck!" He agreed. He had seen two wives suffer and die from Cancer in his life.
Well, less than a year afterward, he had an aneurism one day in the dining room and fell over dead. Although he had some clue something was wrong, he had even gone to the emergency room the night before but they released him... he had little idea it was comin'. That's about as close as you can come to a truck, and tidier for the medics.

What a morbid discussion!
I've always wanted to die being heroic. But only if the heroics were successful.

My dad went pretty quickly. He'd been having trouble with kidney stones. When they went to do the x-ray, he had a reaction to the dye and his heart stopped. He was gone pretty quickly.
I watched wife's Dad suffer through the follow up from prostate cancer. They overdosed him with radiation and destroyed his bladder. He lived with a permanent catheter for more than 10 years. And there were multiple other issues, his heart, arthritis, etc. But he kept going.
I admire that. But I don't want to live like that.

Ecurbh... if I die naked, please dress me before you call the medics ;~D

Ecurbh... if I die naked, please dress me before you call the medics ;~D My wife used to have a deal with a friend that they'd come clean each other's houses if one of 'em suddenly dropped dead.

CSI isn't going to like either one of those deals...
To: Bear_in_RoseBear; HairOfTheDog
CSI can cover the episode when Jr. takes me out back to shoot me.
Although, I figger, by the time I'm ready to go, it'll prolly be legal.

Nothing to do with anime, it's been a thing with me since I was ten or so. I wasn't into anime until much later, sixteen or so.
More likely a Tolkien-related thing, actually...

I suppose they wouldn't...
Officer: "So what you're saying is you found her naked and dressed her and cleaned the house before you called us?"
ecurbh: "Yeah - and I would have called sooner, but I had to try on about four outfits on her before I found one she'd like."
