The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Good Idea, I'm almost finished reading "Fellowship of the Ring" and I think I'll do some more reading on it rather than subject myself to more BP raising moments on FR tonight.

Let's plan to do the Fort Collins one the first Sunday you're out here! I'll bet Margaret would like to hear it.

Oh, that would be wonderful if it'd work! She'd really like that, and so would I.

I may get a desk for the livingroom to use the computer there...but I'd still like to at least get a little dinky desk just for writing in my room - something I could keep my stationary and pens and such in.

And the kitties say "Mmmmmm...sun..." Does that bedroom get much light? I can't remember how everything faces. Where is the balcony compared to where the bedrooms are? And is the bathroom between them?

Heh...I'm thinking what we'll likely do in the car after the first few hours is to put blankets over the luggage in the back and let the cats out just in the back. They'd just snooze in the sun, I think. If not...back in the carrier they go.

Balcony faces more or less due east, so it gets lots of morning sun. Bedroom window is more southerly, so it gets sun into the afternoon. The bathroom is across from my bedroom and next to yours. You'll have to figure out where to put the kitty box - bathroom's not really big enough for it.

My seeds are starting to sprout - I hope they're all up by the time you get here. I'll move them outside then so the kitties don't eat them.

Wish I could picture it all! But then...I'll see the real thing soon enough...

Just signed up for AAA. Should have probably done that awhile back, but it let me print out a temporary membership card, so I guess I'm OK. Bit pricey all at once, but it works out five dollars a month or so...that's not bad at all!

Oh, good plan! With that and a cell phone, you'll be ready for anything!

I was going to send you more pictures but my camera's batteries died, I've been too busy to get more, and there's not really time now. I like the apartment but I admit to worrying about how you'll find it...

As long as I have a little space of my own, a kitchen, and a shower...and know that my cats aren't going to be offensive, I can live with just about anything. Even living at home hasn't been toooo bad, as Margaret rarely hangs out in her room and I know I can retreat there to complain to my journal if things get really crazy. ;-)

What does your cell phone do when you aren't in its local area? I don't understand roaming, and I'm afraid I won't be able to use it on the road. Am I being silly? Is there some code I'll have to enter?

Good for you! Best thing I ever did was get AAA.

Hey, you have high speed internet? If so, can you see if you can get this webpage to open?

http://www.blogger.com/home

I can't get it to open but I may just have too slow a connection.

Sometimes it gives me grief.

We were testing a munition. It was splendid - lots of acquisition organizations got all giddy - and we got lots of data to help commanders in the field. I got goosebumps. The U.S. Army kicks ***. :)

Yes, I understand. But were the goosbumps classified? Can you share them with us?

I finally found follow-up still pics of that LOSAT test where the T72 seems to vanish, except for the rear sprocket wheels. It turns out the turret "survived", but was blown so high into the air that it hit the ground "on edge", and buried itself so completely into the turf that only a little bit of the muzzle was sticking above the ground. That was 150 meters from "ground zero". The engine block was 50 meters away. Major components were scattered all over the countryside.

For me it opens (normally) for me to edit or add to my blog. Just can't get it to open for nothin' and I tried on both computers.

I'll try later.

Thanks...at least I know it must be on my end.

I have only a few minutes here today, I have been running around a lot recently, getting Mrs. Sulla to medical appointments. She had a brain tumor removed last month and her prognosis is very poor.

This is the first time I have been ashamed to be an American since the fall of Saigon! In particular, since Sen Nancy Argenziano is my state Senator, and I voted for her, I consider myself complicit in the judicial murder of Mrs. Schaivo.

Oh dear...I am so sorry! I'll be praying for you all!

It's a rough day, all in all. I'm following the thread on the Pope's health worsening and am almost feeling numb at this point. It's just too much all at once.

Oh dear. Mrs. Sulla will be in all of our prayers, LCS.

I hope you come back here very soon, we'll always be here for you!

Sorry to burden you all with my problems on such a bad day for us all! Only our religious principles and the support of friends can help at such times.

AAA is worth every penny in my opinion! You won't see me getting out and changing a tire on the highway! I'll gladly wait for them to come and do it for me!

The last year we had the Land Yacht (GMC Vandura Hi-Top Conversion Van) I had to call AAA no less than 4 times cause something was wrong with the connection to the battery or something. The battery was new, it just messed up from time to time. It was sure nice having them available to jump me off so I could get to the car doc or wherever I was going.

I wouldn't even want to THINK about a cross country trip without back up like that!

Even if I don't need it, I'll feel better knowing it's there if I need it.

I only got the basic coverage...but that SHOULD be enough, I think. Just doesn't offer 100 mile towing and a few other things.

Roaming on your cell phone just means they charge you through the nose for calls made outside your 'home' area. You should be able to make calls from just about anywhere, especially along the Interstates, it will just cost you more. You should have plenty on your phone to get you through your trip, though it might be a good idea to keep the phone number for adding minutes on to it with you.
